Top 10 Things That Happen When You're Too Close With Your Roommates

My roommates are like my sisters, except we don’t completely get on each other’s nerves.

My suitemates are my best friends in the entire world. Unlike most roommates, we haven’t had a lot of downs, but we’ve had a ton of ups. They’ve seen me at my best and my worst, but mostly they’ve seen me at my most adequate. Here are the top ten things that define how incredibly (and kind of creepily) close we are:

1. You randomly burst into song

2. The one guaranteed time you’re all in the dorm together at once is when your favorite show is on.

Bob’s Burgers is truly the awkward glue that binds our friendship together. Whether it's Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, or Saturday Night Live, you know that when it's on, you and your roommates are there and elbow deep in a bowl of popcorn (the popcorn thing is mostly me).

3. You like to mess with each other... a lot.

Whether it’s a full on prank or classic sarcasm, it’s sure to be a riot. It doesn’t always go well, but it’s hilarious nonetheless, and you can always count on your roommates to take a joke.

4. They don’t mind you having the occasional breakdown.

Everyone has their off days, but no one understands you quite like your roommates do. You can always count on them; whether it’s to reassure you that you’re the good kind of weird, or to make you feel a little better about consuming your weight in Hershey’s kisses.

5. You have inside jokes that cannot be explained. Ever.

It's hilarious to you guys, but anyone else is completely lost. Whether it's, “strong like turtle," or, “Katie arms,” every close-knit group of friends has a set of strange things they say or do.

6. You have your own special rituals

Our Thursdays are meant for Clickventures, and Sundays for puzzles and Bob’s Burgers. That's life now, and life is good. Whether it's something completely strange like ours, or something more normal like weekend brunch or Monday yoga, every group of friends has at least one special tradition.

7. You have your own Buzzfeed quiz.

Well...we do. Here is our shameless plug.

8. You have a roommate mixtape.

Somewhere, in the void of your dorm, is a playlist that you and your roommates have created. It’s probably full of songs from Bob’s Burgers, Mulan, Lil Dicky’s new album, and Clickhole articles... or maybe that’s just us. (Awkward...) Either way, if you have a playlist, whether it's for getting ready to go out or for crazy road trips, it's full of songs that truly define your friendship.

9. You have a mascot.

If you’re as creepily close with your roomies as I am with mine, then there is definitely some sort of weird symbol of your squad’s sass. Ours is our pet fish, Turtle, who is totally bae.

10. You become an open book.

They know everything about you. From how freakishly fast you shower to how obsessed you are with bacon novelty items, they know everything. They know that you are a proud cat lady and that you drink tea more than a British grandmother. You can feel completely yourself around them, because at the end of the day, you know that you can count on them to have your back. Their weirdness pairs perfectly with yours, and that’s what makes you all best friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
