Halloween is without a doubt, my favorite holiday of all time. How could you not love the candy, the decorations, the specials on TV (I see you ABC), and the candy overload in the month of October? None of us can deny the love of all things spooky. But of course, the absolute best thing about Halloween, are the costumes.
Here’s the thing though, between midterms, assignments and pulling all-nighters at the library, you completely forgot to get your outfits for the weekend in order. EVEN THOUGH, planning for that weekend has been on your top list of priorities (right under shopping for recruitment and on top of renewing your Netflix subscription). Alas, what’s done is done and cannot be undone.
Don’t sweat it! With these easy, non time-consuming ideas, you can still have the best costumes yet!
1. 1. The Heathers
Can’t go wrong with this classic bunch of ahem, ladies. This 90”s movie is perfect not only for a group costume, but in the spirit of Halloween as well! Back comb your hair until it resembles a nest, get a plaid skirt and some shoulder pads and you’re good to go!
2. 2. Clueless
Another 90’s classic, the girls from Clueless are a great example of an easy and quick outfit for the night. With a number of outfits to choose from, all you really need are some preppy pieces, a lot of gum chewing, and questionable lip stick shades (purple? Really?).
3 3. Emojis
This is one of my favorites of the season. Emojis! If I weren’t on a computer right now I would have inserted at least 15 right there. It’s a funny and easy costume to come up with. My personal favorite is the dancing red woman. I call her sassy Sally.
4. 4. Frat Guys
Alright ladies, tired of being made fun of for our
recruitment videos, sorority squats and ‘candid pictures?’ Well it’s go time. Get out your Sperry’s, colorful shorts and baseball caps - it's time to be a Frat guy. Add lots of
cologne and a few Cuban cigars for full effect!
5. 5. Let's Get Saucy
This idea always cracks me up because of how easy and fundamental it is. Sauces! Whether its soy sauce or hot sauce and of my staple, bbq sauce, this is the perfect costume! All you have to do is get the sauce’s colored shirt and paste the logo on the front. For a group costume, go for the Taco Bell condiments! Mild, Hot, and of course, Fire! (Insert Sassy Sally).
6. 6. Disney Princesses
Always wanted to be a princess? Always wanted to have a tiara atop your head and act annoyingly cheerful? A Disney princess costume is the thing for you! Whether its Jasmine or Aurora or even Mulan, all you need are the colors of the outfit of the princess and a bounce in your step to pull this one off.
7. 7. Athletes
This is probably one of the easiest costumes you can get your hands on. Grab a jersey of your school or any sports team that you like, throw on a pair of shorts or leggings, and you’re ready to play (pun totally intended). Add in a bat or a ball to really fit the character.
8. 8. The Plastics
“On Wednesdays, we wear pink.” Praise Tina Fay for this masterpiece of a movie. Hands down the most quotable movie ever, Mean Girls has the greatest source of costumes for Halloween. Whether you and some sisters want to be the Plastics, or even the girl who eats her feelings, costumes from this movie will be nothing short of fetch.
9. 9. Charlie’s Angels
Ohhhhyeah, these ladies are definitely a great choice for a costume. Whether you want to be Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu or Drew Barrymore, this costume will kick every other costumes’ butt for sure (I know, that sounded super lame but bare with me).
10. ANY ANIMAL
Soooo, this is the costume I try and stay away from, considering it rings true to any kind of sorority stereotype for Halloween BUT, I will not deny how great it is on the no effort front. For this costume, you can go to any pharmacy or costume store and pick up a pair of ears. Whatever the animal, wear the according colors and you are good to go!
I hope these ideas will help you with whatever time you have left to get a costume together. Whether it’s a mouse or Karen being a mouse (double whammy), enjoy your night, be safe, and enjoy the best holiday of the year!
