Everyone has those lazy Sunday mornings when they wake up, and all they want to do is spend the day watching Netflix. You wake up, brush your teeth, grab a snack, but then somehow end up back in your bed till dinner time. The more often you have these days, the more likely you are to run out of TV shows. So here are my top suggestions, some may be tailored more towards females, but even guys like a little sappy love story in their lives sometimes.
5. The Secret Life of The American Teenager
Sorry guys, this one might not be for you, but girls on the other hand will love it. It's five seasons filled with drama, love, kids, and entertainment all piled into high school kids' experiences. Although once you start watching it you realize that it is nowhere near what a normal high school is like, the cliff hangers at the end of each episode will force you to finish a season in one day. From the unexpected pregnancy of fifteen year old Amy Juergens, to a multitude of proposals, divorces, deaths, and marriages, you never will know what could possibly be thrown at you in the next episode.
4. Law & Order SVU
Even if you aren't into crime TV shows, I recommend watching it just to hear the theme song every forty-five minutes. The theme song is so entertaining, that the movie Ted 2 did a remix of it. Law & Order SVU is a great show to watch at any point in time because each episode has a new plot. You don't have to be "caught up" on each episode to be able to understand what is going on. A new case is presented to an elite team of investigators at the beginning of each episode, and then, even with some curve balls thrown in, they still manage to hunt down enough clues to determine exactly what happened. Compared to some crime shows, it is not as superficial, and the answers to the crime don't just appear out of nowhere whenever the detectives are stumped. This show is definitely entertaining to both genders, and there are so many seasons, that you won't run out of episodes within the first week.
3. Gossip Girl
Sitting on the steps on the Upper East Side with Serena, Blair, Nate and Chuck, will definitely make you reconsider your whole high school experience. From the parties they throw, to all the hookups that occur, and the money put into every outfit they wear, I guarantee your high school was nothing like this one. The anonymous secrets constantly released by "Gossip Girl" keeps all the characters on their toes when it comes to their actions. The ongoing teenage drama may make you feel like you are losing brain cells while watching, but as one episode ends, you just have to keep watching to see the next.
2. Grey's Anatomy
"Scalpel. Suction. I need my ten blade." After watching Grey's, you will feel like you could perform a tracheotomy on the side of the street with a pen, and many more complex surgeries. The quick pace of the hospital environment definitely keeps the show moving and in an intense way. Just when you think one character is too important to lose, you start to rethink everything you just watched. Grey's Anatomy does a great job balancing the medical environment with enough drama and outside events to keep even people who don't completely understand the hospital environment on their toes.
1. One Tree Hill
Basketball: the only thing that these two half brothers have in common, besides their father. One growing up as the rich boy, who got everything as a result of "daddy's money," and the other growing up where playing basketball at the river court was the only thing he had. Just when they thought they had successfully avoided each other for life, high school basketball brings these two boys back together. Between basketball, girls, injuries, and accidents, One Tree Hill attracts multiple audiences. Fair warning: Do not stop watching after the second episode. The first few episodes are not great at luring you in, but by the fifth or sixth episode, you will not be able to stop watching. I saved this one for the top of the list because overall it does the best job at bringing together similar themes into the lives of your average high school student. The audience has an easier time making a personal connection with these high school students--then they would watching a show like Clifford the Big Red Dog--because the themes are actually relatable for most people. The personal connections make the viewers become more invested in the show, which leads to the perfect formula for binge-watching.
Although Netflix has not found away to help us burn calories while watching, it is still the ideal event for a lazy Sunday afternoon. So grab that snack and join Meredith in the hospital, or Nathan and Luke on the courts, but remember to drink a lot of water, and get up every two episodes so you don't get a cramp, or so your leg doesn't fall asleep!
