With the semester coming to a close, all IU students are preparing for final projects and exams. This means that Wells is going to be overflowing with students who will be hogging outlets and study tables. If you're anything like I am, and can't focus on reading or note-taking while hundreds of people are in the same room as you, Wells is probably not the ideal location for an all-nighter or quick study session. There are plenty of other great locations on campus you can head to that don't have the distractions that come along with Wells Library.
1. Soma Coffee Shop
Caffeine, peaceful background music, hipster environment — what more could you ask for when studying? Soma is the perfect location, because it is calm and right near Kirkwood. The coffees and teas are even better than Starbucks, and it isn't nearly as crowded, so there is always a place to sit and room to study.
2. The Indiana Memorial Union
The Union is a very underrated study spot in my opinion. There are endless possibilities when it comes to finding a perfect place to cram at the Union. From the big comfy couches in lounge areas to the food court that is perfect for snacking and studying, the Union is a great location that is right in the center of campus.
3. The School of Education Library
Want peace and quiet without the annoying awkward time period at Wells where you have to try to find a place to sit? The School of Ed Library is a perfect spot, because it is filled with all the resources you need, including Mac and PC computers and a snack shop right outside.
4. Noodles & Company
Right on Kirkwood, Noodles comes in as the number four location for studying, because it is quiet, but not silent. Its aromas will also entice you to buy a yummy, nutritious meal to keep your brain fueled without breaking the bank. Head right to the back where there are big tables, open up your books and laptop and study your night away. Noodles is also right by the A-Bus stop, which can take you almost anywhere you need to be on campus.
5. The Woodlands at Forest
Another underrated study location is the coffee shop located inside of Forest's new dining hall. Fully stocked with snacks you can purchase through meal points (Score!), a warm fireplace and countless outlets, this hidden treasure is a great idea for studying and is right across from another bus stop!
So whether you want a study location on campus or further away, don't forget to grab some caffeine and a phone charger! No matter where you choose to study this finals season, keep calm and may the odds be ever in your favor.
