We all love a good, sad movie. But, for some people it is harder to make them tear up. I have seen many movies that have made me laugh, cry, angry, etc. However, these movies are a real heart-breakers. If you love a good cry, try these movies.
1. "Testament of Youth"
If you don't mind sobbing for the rest of your day, then watch this movie. It is based off of an Autobiography by Vera Brittain. It tells a story of a young, upper class British woman who recalls her life during World War I. It is really a story of love, loss, and war. This movie really shows the hardships of war and young love. If i had to rate this movie out of five, I'd give it a six. This movie truly breaks your heart but also shows you how strong and brave this young woman was.
2. "The Lovely Bones"
This movie breaks your heart and gives you happiness. Based on the book "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold, this movie centers around a young girl, Susie, who was kidnapped, raped, and murdered. The story is told in her perspective from Purgatory. A place between Heaven and Earth. It shows the lives of her family, friends, and the killer and how they have changed after her death. All while trying to get someone to find her body.
3. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?"
This movie gives you love and tenderness in a place where you think you'd never find it. It is centered around the Grape family in which Gilbert, the main character, has to take care of his mental disabled brother and his morbidly obese mother after the death of his father. Gilbert's life is very unfortunate but he finds happiness in his younger brother, who Gilbert looks after like a guardian angel. But, life changes when a girl, Becky, arrives in town with her grandmother as they await for parts for their broken down vehicle.
4. "Dead Poets Society"
You can't go wrong with a Robin Williams movie, that's for sure. This movie is centered around Todd Anderson and his roommate Neil, who are sent to this very prestigious school, Welton Academy. The story progress to Todd, Neil, and their group of friends when they meet Mr. Keating, Robin Williams, who teaches them unconventionally. Keating tells them of what is called the Dead Poets Society, and really encourages them to be who they are. Each boy finds who they are through friendship, love, and loss.
5. "My Girl"
Get ready to grab the tissues my friends. This movie develops a story about two young children, Vada and her friend that is "allergic to everything", Thomas J. This movie is focused around death whether or not you can outright see it. Vada's mother is dead and her father runs a funeral parlor. This film gives you tears of happiness and sadness. Thomas J understands Vada, even though he is a boy.
Obviously i cannot put every single movie that has made me cry on this list or we would be here forever. But, these movies hit my heartstrings and will forever have a place in my heart.
