Easter happened this Sunday, which is often spent in different ways for different families. Some consider the holiday more piously, going to church and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus in that way. Others adhere to a light-hearted view of the day and spend it painting eggs, having Easter egg hunts with the Easter bunny, and eating as much sweet treats as their hearts desire. Other families might do a little bit of both. Now, one might wonder, what does a bunny and colorful eggs have to do with Jesus? The short answer is: nothing.
Apparently, the word Easter, itself, actually comes from a different deity altogether: Eostre, a Germanic goddess. She was a goddess of fertility, among other things, and some of her symbols were eggs and rabbits. Additionally, there is supposedly a myth in which the goddess turns a hurt bird into a rabbit, and so the rabbit is able to lay eggs. This can certainly explain the whole Easter bunny situation. Despite its origins, the tradition of Easter egg hunts and the goodies they promise are beloved by many, regardless of their religious affiliations. So, in honor of that, here are a list of treats that are only available for this holiday.
1. Cadbury Mini Eggs
My personal favorite, these candies are milk chocolate with a colorful sugar coating, making them appear like little Easter eggs.
2. Peeps
Though available throughout the year, marshmallow Peeps, with their bright colors, definitely bring about the spirit of the Easter season.
3. Lindt Chocolate Bunnies
Because who wouldn't want a solid chocolate bunny to munch on?
4. Jelly Beans
With their variety of colors and flavors, jelly beans make for a great egg stuffer every Easter.
5. Reese's Egg
Reese's milk chocolate and peanut butter treats are always a hit, but especially so during Easter, with their festive "egg" treats.
6. Lindt Chocolate Carrots
The Easter bunny deserves a treat, too, after all!
7. Cadbury Creme Eggs
Cadbury becomes very popular this time of year, with their creme filled chocolate eggs. They also have a caramel filled version, though those are not as popular as these.
8. Hershey's Cookies'n'Creme Bunnies
Hershey's takes the chocolate bunny to a whole other level by making them their popular flavor, Cookies'n'Creme.
