Most Memorable Degrassi Moments

As a pre-teen and even as the almost adult I am today, Degrassi is my sh*t. Automatically drawn in by the outrageous drama and events that we, the viewers, felt could never happen at a normal high school. Besides these guys are Canadian, nothing exciting EVER happens in Canada. To show that maybe sometimes, something exciting happens in Canada, I've compiled this list of the best Degrassi moments. In my opinion at least....

1. Manny breaking out of her "cute" mold

There comes a time and place for being called cute and Manny Santos decided it was in her freshman year, that now was the time. In an attempt to shed her good girl cute image she purchases a whole new wardrobe for everyone to see. A key component to her hot new outfit is her revealing pants, showing a thong, that somehow matches her entire outfit perfectly. After getting in trouble with administration and getting banned from wearing thongs, she decided to start going commando, because wearing underwear was just TOO cute for Manny now.

2. Manny's stripping on camera

After Manny’s revealing outfit, she was set up to be the wild child of the cast. From pregnancy scares to wanting a boob job, was anyone really surprised when she stripped down on camera for Peter? All while shouting some of Degrassi's most memorable lines, "You can save this and sell this for a million dollars when I'm famous one day." Long story short, Peter did not sell the video he simply distributed in amongst the kids of Degrassi, for no charge.

3. Jimmy getting shot

Easily the most frightening and intense scene of all of Degrassi history was Jimmy getting shot. It was true testament to the consequences of bullying anyone. The prank played on Rick pushed him so far he felt inclined to bring the gun in and punish those who were a part of it. In an act of shi*tty friendship Spinner (and Jay) frame Jimmy saying it was all his idea. Those few words resulted in Jimmy being unable to walk, FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

4. JT getting stabbed

JT was lovable and cute. Even though no one really liked Liberty we still rooted for them because we like JT. But all of that was ripped away when JT was stabbed at party by some hoodlums peeing on his car. Liberty then stumbles out to find her baby daddy's lifeless body, It is later on revealed that JT was stabbed in the heart. Countless memorials and tears followed the unexpected and tragic death. But on a very real notes, what are the odds of JT getting stabbed in the HEART. I think this was supposed to be some type of sick irony by the Degrassi writers.

5. Spinner and Emma GETTING MARRIED

I’m still mourning the loss of the relationship that was Emma and Sean. They were meant to be together forever, until Emma and Spinner get married in some random casino. Not only do they get married but they STAY married and just haphazardly decide they are and always have been madly in love.

6. Spinner and his Boners

Degrassi was known for touching on intense issues that affected the teens watching, one of the issue was getting random boners. Spinner in his height of puberty was having his little man grow at every inopportune moment.

7. That time Billy Ray Cyrus drove a limo

This had absolutely nothing to do with any plots but still deserves a mention.

8. Clare's downfall

Honestly, as much as I absolutely hated Clare and was simply waiting for the day she was killed off, they freaking gave her cancer. You cannot root for a character to die by cancer. All while having cancer she was involved in one of the best relationships in the show ever with Eli. As she is beating cancer episode by episode we find out her relationship is on the rocks. Once she finally does beat cancer they slam her with a teen pregnancy. As Clare's life is crumbling the producers decide, "Hey, why don't we make her have a miscarriage while we are at it!"

9. Cam’s Suicide

Cam was on the show for literally like two weeks but in that time they made him terribly depressed. The other characters did not see anything wrong with him because he was the star of the hockey team, had a girlfriend, he basically had it all in the eyes of others. But inside he was suffering, and ultimately ended it.

10. Ali just being Ali

Ali was created to become the Manny in the newer seasons. Her strict parents made her feel the need to act out. From dressing in traditional garb everyday and changing before she went home to her relationship with Johnny, Ali became the poster child of what not to do. She sent nudes, lost her virginity in a less than promising way, and even had an STD and pregnancy scare. She added the spice to Degrassi until it was time for her to clean up her act and become an adult

.

Through and through Degrassi was one drama filled masterpiece, with many more moments that truly define the series besides the ones listed above. I am sad to see a show that defined my childhood to be going off the air but as they say, "All good things must come to an end."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
