My Top 5 Song Recommendations for Inspiration

Everyone has their list of go-to songs. The songs that make them happy, the ones that get them through depression and heartbreak, and the ones for the sole purpose of jamming out. Regardless of why we listen to music or what emotions we are feeling; music of all genres has the power to inspire and impact lives in a big way. For this reason, I wanted to share the top 7 songs and artists (in no particular order) that have inspired me the most in life. Even if you aren't inspired by any or all of these songs, my hope is that this short list will help remind you of some of your favorites and the power of music itself.

1. The Truth - James Arthur

James Arthur isn't super well-known, but his music is known for its raw emotion and powerful messages. The former X-Factor UK winner James Arthur also just released his second album entitled Back From The Edge. Having struggled with many things in life and the constant battling to protect and achieve your dreams, this song really resonates with me. It's a great reminder that sometimes we have to lose the things that matter most to us in order to find who we are and "find a way to breathe."

2. Everglow - Coldplay

Coldplay has cemented their place as one of the most popular artists of the decade. Perhaps most famous for their top-5 hit "Yellow" in 2000. Everglow is a beautiful, heartfelt ballad that can make even the most stoic individual melt from the inside out.

3. With Love - Christina Grimmie

Christina Grimmie made her rise to fame as a Youtube sensation and eventually landed a record deal after placing 3rd on "The Voice." She was shot and killed in July of 2016, but the impact she had on the lives of millions of people will not be forgotten. With Love is truly an inspiring track and it is full of meaning.

4. Till I Fall Asleep - Jayme Dee

The next track is just as emotional and helped me when I was going through relationship problems and a breakup. Jayme Dee is less well-known; but as this song demonstrates, she writes from the heart. It is a great reminder that we need to appreciate the small things in life. Because once a bridge is burned, it may not be able to be repaired.

5. Dark Blue - Jack's Mannequin

The last song for today isn't as popular as other notables. I will say this one is one of those songs that is really catchy. Being an introvert it has a lot of meaning for me as well. Talking about "Dark Blue" as this overwhelming thing that runs rampant and just takes over. But overall, it's just a great song in general.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Sister | Brother Style - Word Press

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
