Like most college students, I spend a majority of my time on my laptop. Then again, I am not always checking up on my grades, writing a paper or studying. Most of the time when you see me on my laptop, I've got my headphones in and am deeply intrigued by whatever is playing on my screen. You guessed it: I'm watching Netflix. You can place money on the fact that when I get home, the first thing I do is click on the little red button on my bookmarked tabs and start playing whatever show has currently grabbed my attention. And now, a list of my favorite shows to binge watch over and over and over again.
6. "American Horror Story"
Who doesn't love a good dose of AHS? Whether it's the romance of Tate and Violet, the strangeness of Asylum, or the mystic that comes with Freak Show, there is no one that I know who can't get a kick out of the wacky characters that come to life when watching this show. As someone who has followed along with it since the beginning, it is near and dear to my heart. Sure, the characters are different, but they are all so precious in their own way. This is a show that, if you haven't watched it a few times like I have, you should definitely stick your neck out there and try it.
5. "Gossip Girl"
Alright, this is a guilty pleasure, to be honest. I was introduced to "Gossip Girl" toward the beginning of high school and absolutely fell in love with it. Admittedly, it only took me a week to get through the entirety of the show. There is just something about the drama and petty fights between New York's finest teens that holds my attention. While there might not be something for everyone, I feel like the show provides enough for most teenage girls. There is the glitz, glam, and fashion of Blair Waldorf and her posse, the romance that everyone loves between Dan and Serena as well as several love triangles as the show progresses. There is suspense, drama and even a little bit of action. Along with all of that, we also get to see the soft side of several of our favorite characters. All in all, it's definitely something to love. And re-watch. Again.
4. "New Girl"
This is the one that I watch when I'm in need of a good laugh. Sure, there is cutesy romance and there can be drama around all of my favorite characters, but Zooey Deschanel just makes the funniest faces, and her portrayal of Jessica Day manages to crack me up every single time. It is definitely a show that I can watch on repeat and never get bored of!
3. "Supernatural"
To be honest, I hadn't thought that I was going to enjoy the show when I was first introduced to it. I love horror, but hadn't been sure if I would like the immensely supernatural based television show. From the very beginning, Sam and Dean captured my heart and roped me in completely. Not only were they strong characters and men, they both had soft sides that made you melt inside. There was action, gore, suspense, terror, and there was even romance sprinkled throughout the show. On top of all of that, the humor was always there. From Jensen's dancing, to Misha Collins completely taking on Castiel's character in the best sense possible. One episode of Supernatural can make just about anyone go from fear, to laughter, all the way to choking sobs. "Carry on my Wayward Son" starts playing and we all know that it's over.
2. "Grey's Anatomy"
"Grey's Anatomy"? I know, doctors. I didn't think it would be that great either. Before I started watching this for the first time, I had almost no interest in watching it. Everyone was always talking about it and I didn't understand why. And then, I watched it and I knew. There was something about these characters that were not only witty and talented, but completely relatable. Our main character is not some perfect, perky doctor, but a very dark and twisty version of who a lot of us are inside. She is afraid of love, relentless at work, and spends 11 seasons figuring out just who she is. I like to think that we figured out who we are right alongside of her. There is so much to love about this show: the banter between Cristina, Alex, Izzy and the rest of the gang, as well as all of the very inappropriate relationships going on in the hospital. It's laughter and crying and screaming all at one time.
1. "How I Met Your Mother"
"HIMYM" is definitely my all time favorite TV show. It starts as what appears to be your classic, close-knit friend group taking on hilarious adventures. Very much "Friends"-esque, though (in my opinion) so much better. We center on Ted: a nerdy architect just searching for "the one" in New York. And of course, his two best friends Marshall and Barney who take on two very different personalities. Add in the fiery Lily and the independent Robin and we have our loveable, frustrating, troublesome gang of misfits. We follow along with them while Ted struggles in his romantic life, falling love, almost getting married and eventually finding his dream home and his dream girl. The entire ride is exciting and fun, and there could be nothing better than that.
