If you're following a strict vegan diet and think that means giving up hot and cheesy pizza, think again. Fortunately, New York City is home to a handful of exceptional pizzerias serving up amazing dairy free slices. Below are the top five spots to grab a vegan slice in the city.

1. Mathew Kenney's Vegan Pizzeria 00 + Co.

This past February, Chef Matthew Kenney opened up this plant-based pizzeria in the East Village. With 9 delicious and organic pies, wine, and vegan ice-cream, 00 + Co. is a must try spot for your next night out.

2. Two Boots Pizza

Two Boots is a NYC staple for a crispy thin crust slice. The trendy spot makes a few fresh vegan pies that are to die for. My favorite is the “V for Vegan” which has artichokes, red onion, shiitake mushrooms, sweet red pepper pesto, basil pesto, and Daiya non-dairy cheese (pictured below).

3. Screamer’s Vegan Pizzeria

For all those who haven’t heard Screamer’s Pizza just opened this month, making it the first ever all vegan pizzeria in Brooklyn. Good luck choosing just one slice out of the tons of Instagram worthy pies.

4. Peacefood Café

The raw pizza at Peacefood Café is most definitely worth all the hype. With three mouth-watering pies; mushroom duxelle, roasted seasonal veggie, and roasted potato, you’re sure to fall in love with the all vegan Peacefood Café.

5. Pala Pizza

For the ultimate Italian style vegan pizza indulge at Pala Pizza on your next night out. With an elaborate vegan menu and over five vegan pies (all topped with Daiya cheese), you have plenty of pies to choose from. Considering its not an entirely vegan establishment, vegans and non-vegans can all wine and dine together.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
