I have been a Floridian for 12 years and I still will find myself saying, "There is nothing to do here," which is crazy because there is plenty to do (depending on where you live). So since it is Summer break for most, many people decide to do Florida road trips and I am here to help you figure out where to go and what to do while you are on your adventure!
Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure:
This is a great trip to do with friends and I can say from experience. My friends and I are season pass holders and it is completely worth it. With a season pass you have access to both parks and if you are a fan of "Harry Potter" like me, that means you get to ride the Hogwarts express to and from both parks. Sure, a trip like that adds up, but it is an experience that you will always remember. Who wouldn't want roller coasters, sunshine, good food and laughs?
Beach it up:
If you are close to the beach, then go! I do not go that often because I live where people vacation so I don't find the need to go to the beach all the time (weird, I know). If you have family visiting, then it's the perfect area to relax, unwind and spend time with everyone. If you go early in the morning, then you have more a chance to grab a good shady spot if those are available at your local beaches. Then, you can set up your stuff, bring some food and music and just have the time of your life.
Go to a local park:
Florida is full of parks and all you gotta do is Google them if you do not know where they are located. Luckily for me, I have a park directly across from where I live, which is very convenient. Not only is it nice to walk around and site see, but depending on which ones you go to, some of them have amphitheaters, water parks, golf courses and more! You can have a picnic, swing on the swing set and maybe see an alligator...or five.
Tour different university campuses:
One of my favorite things to is tour different schools if I am nearby them. I am that person who looks completely lost, while taking pictures of everything and anything, and is exploring the gift shops purchasing memorabilia. Some great places to check out are FAU in Boca Raton, FGCU in Ft. Myers, FSU in Tallahassee and USF in Tampa. Obviously, there are many more so get to exploring!
Miami:
If you haven't gone, then you have to go at least once. Personally, I am not a fan of Miami but one of my favorite spots is Lincoln Road. There are so many shops there and a lot of culture. If you head down to South Beach, then you will encounter the people with the snakes on the sidewalk, the people who try to lure you into restaurants and clubs, and you can also take a look at the gorgeous Versace house.
Whatever you choose to do, it will not be a mistake. Enjoy these moments and make sure to pack a lot of sun screen!
