We can all admit that Taylor isn’t the most “liked” person in the music industry, but being a 21-year-old girl, in college, I can easily say for myself and for others that Taylor’s music was a huge influence growing up in high school and even now. Every word in every one of her songs could/can touch everyone of our lives in someway or another. These are just a couple of examples:
1. “You call me up again just to break me like a promise. So casually cruel in the name of being honest.” -All Too Well
This line, still to this day sends chills down my spine. We all have had that one person who did/does exactly this. It speaks for itself.
2. “But I took your matches before fire could catch me, so don’t look now, I’m shining like fireworks over your sad empty town” -Dear John
Have you ever just had someone in your life who does nothing but make your life miserable? We all have had toxic people in our lives. Standing up for yourself before this person has the ability to do this, makes a difference.
3. “The drought was the very worst; When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst” -Clean
We’ve all had those moments when we think being alone, or separated from our significant other after a while together is going to be the most difficult time and it normally is. Those moments when it feels like the world is ending but despite however long it takes to get over it, in the end, it will all be okay.
4. “I’ve never heard silence quite this loud.” -The Story Of Us
Whether you’re fighting with your boyfriend/girlfriend or even a friend, when words aren’t spoken and it is just quiet, but it is the most you’ve ever heard.
5. “But this is me swallowing my pride, standing in front of you saying, 'I'm sorry for that night.'”- Back To December
Rather than Taylor always being the victim, in “Back to December” she speaks for every girl out there who was afraid to admit they were wrong and regrets what was done.
She gives us the ability to say what we can’t say. So, as for people who have never given her a shot, remember she was also 16-year-old girl--she went through the same things that all of us did, but she is able to say it a little better than we can.
