Being a senior in high school is probably the most stressful thing to experience, because you need to figure out where you want to go for college. Here are a few reasons why I chose a school that only has a little over 2,000 people, and not a big university.
Small class sizes.
Going to a small school, you have the opportunity to be able to meet with your professor, and build a relationship with them. I know for me, that was something I know I needed so that I could be involved in my learning. I didn’t just want to be another number. I know that I will excel more if I could have that one on one with my professors if I needed.
Caring professors.
The professors care about you, and your grades. A small school, is a lot like high school, but is a lot more exciting. I loved the relationships I built with my teachers in high school. I also wanted that in college. You go through a big change, and having a teacher be there for you, helps immensely.
You’re able to be adventurous.
You’re able to try new things that you never have before. I know it’s like that everywhere you go. But, for an example, I joined the cheer team. Have I ever cheered a day in my life? Nope. But I wanted to go out of my comfort zone, and try something totally new! There is no way I could have done that if I went to a big university. Just think of all the different things you could try too.
Living in a small town.
The town may be small, but there is so much to do. More than anything, I preferred a small town. It just reminds me of being home, having people all around you that care.
The people are nice and caring.
I think the biggest reason why I chose a small school, was because before I even moved in, I had met so many people that were so kind, and welcoming, just in town. People here are so friendly, and aren’t rude and stuck up like city people. Everyone I walk by flashes a smile my way, and it makes me love this school so much.
These were all things I considered before applying to any school. If you are in the process of applying, hopefully these were helpful. Good luck!!
