I will probably get a little bit of hate for this list, but hey, in the sneaker world, hate isn't always a bad thing. We all have our own opinions and know what we like and dislike. That's what forms each and every individual collection. Ranging from Chuck T's to Nike basketball and everything in between, the diversity is what makes the sneaker community so spectacular.
Anyway, I've been in this game for awhile now, and have seen thousands upon thousands (with 120 pairs and counting in my own personal collection) of different sneakers pass by me in some form or another. Some releases have me wondering just why they are so popular, and others leave me guessing as to why they didn't sell out right away. The beauty of the sneaker game is the consumer essentially sets the market. Everyone has sneakers they just aren't too fond of that just about everyone else loves. To me, I categorize them as "overrated."
Now, don't get me wrong, these next few sneakers aren't awful by any means, they just aren't sneakers that deserve the recognition or hype they receive.
(In my opinion, of course.)
5. Air Jordan 6 "White/Infrared"
This sneaker really disappointed. With a good amount of hype and excitement surrounding the release, the sneaker was a let down in person. Up close, the materials, quality and color really didn't work out well. The leather feels and looks cheap, and the "red," whether it be original or not, is a weird pinkish. Just not a fan of this sneaker at all.
4. Supreme x Nike Air Foamposite
The most hyped-up brand in the industry, Supreme, teaming up with Nike to make a foamposite had hypebeast written all over it. To me, the all-over Supreme branding is just way too much, and the shoe isn't easy on the eyes. No thanks. I'll keep my $500.
3. Air Jordan 5 "Fire Red"
I know it's original and an iconic Jordan, but this sneaker is just boring. I'm a red guy, too, but there is just too much white here and not enough of the said red. Plus, I'm not a fan of 5s from the start, so these were already at a disadvantage. However, this shoe just leaves me with the "anything else" type feeling, where I feel as if it's truly lacking that wow factor.
2. KD 6 "Aunt Pearl"
I hate this model, so this has more to do with that than the color way itself. This color way is actually nice, and one of the better renditions of the Aunt Pearl. I just hate this model. It looks just like an indoor soccer cleat, and the way that tongue sits is horrible. I'll never understand why people went so crazy over certain KD 6s, the model was garbage, and even an awesome color way like this couldn't save it.
1. Air Jordan 11 Low "Concord" or "Bred"
Such a lazy release from Jordan Brand. They chopped off the top of the original Concords and Breds, and for some odd reason, consumers went nuts for them. They didn't even execute the release well — the sneakers were nothing special, yet people adore them, especially the Concords. I am not a fan of many low-top retros, especially 11s, but the way these two pairs generated so much unwarranted love really had me baffled. These were even reselling for decent prices on the after market, post-release, which made no sense. Who would pay $250 for a chopped off low top of a sneaker you could buy for around $300? Hypebeasts...?
