Now that Thanksgiving is over, Christmas season is upon us. The lights, Christmas trees, and love are all over. There is no better time of the year (unless you are choosing to be Scrooge or the Grinch). One of my favorite things about Christmas is the movies that I watch every year and can never get tired of. Here are the top five Christmas movies you need to watch to get yourself into the Christmas mood!
5. "Home Alone"
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.
Now, while I saw a video of doctor's describing all the medical attention the thieves in this story would need from Kevin's mischief, this movie is still hilarious even if it's not realistic. If I got left home alone for Christmas, I'd probably bawl my eyes out. But Kevin is so smart and creates one of the funniest Christmas movies!
4. "It's a Wonderful Life"
Look, Daddy. Teacher says every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.
3. "Elf"
Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?
Buddy is pretty much showing my reaction once Thanksgiving is over up until Christmas Day.
This movie is a classic, and you can't go wrong with watching it. Now, while Buddy's taste in food might be a little off (aka the four main elf food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup), he loves Santa and gets the entire town into the Christmas spirit to help Santa fly. This is how we all need to be during the holiday season!
2. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation"
Uncle Lewis: They want you to say, Grace. The blessing!
Aunt Bethany: [they all pose for prayer] I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Clark: Amen.
There is no other Christmas movie that can make me cry laughing. This one never gets old, and I watch it every Christmas multiple times (it helps to have it on DVD like I do). I think my favorite part of the whole movie is after Clark gets his bonus check. While I probably need to watch the edited version, nothing has me crying more than that scene.
And my number one favorite Christmas movie is....
1. "Charlie Brown Christmas"
Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.
My mom and I have watched this together every year since I was little. There's nothing like little Linus telling the Christmas story (with a blanket in hand) to really put the true meaning of Christmas in perspective for every viewer. And even with Charlie Brown's little Christmas tree... It's just a reminder that we are so blessed and have a lot to be thankful for -- even a tiny little tree. Stay humble, my friends!
Now go get to watching these movies, and get in the Christmas spirit!!
