The end of the semester is just around the corner, and the slump of the last few weeks is hitting you, and hitting you hard. Here are a some motivational quotes from my favorite series to get you through the next few weeks.
1. "It is our choices, Harry, that show us who we truly are, far more than our abilities." -Albus Dumbledore, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"
School may be beating you up right now, and making you feel as though there is nothing in the world that matters more than your grades and your GPA. Just remember that no matter how well you do in school, it is the choices you make during and after school that ultimately shape your life, whether that may be to go to that party with your friends or stay in and study all weekend, either choice is a good one in the correct circumstances.
2. "Books! And cleverness! There are far more important things-like friendship and bravery."- Hermione Granger, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone"
Again, it is important to remember that while you are at college to further your education, that is not all that matters. Yes, take the time that you need to study and write your papers, but don't leave behind those who are there to support you when textbooks fail you and you need a shoulder to lean on.
3. "Turn to page 394."- Severus Snape, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"
I don't care who you are, but this quote just makes me want to read. Grab your text book and turn to page 394 (or whatever page you need it on to study) and get cracking. It might feel like you're having to force yourself, but before you know it, three hours will have passed by and Alan Rickman's voice will still be in your head, along with all the words from the reading you just did.
4. "Eat. You'll feel better."-Remus Lupin, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"
Don't forget to eat as the end of year comes at you faster than the Hogwarts Express. Not only will it give you energy, but it will keep you focused on the task at hand. Try to eat brain food, like protein and the good carbs, instead of an entire box of cereal or a year's worth of Easy Mac in the course of one week.
5. "Dark and difficult time lie ahead. Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy."-Albus Dumbledore, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"
Exams are hard and writing papers are just as hard, so when you get discouraged, remember that the easiest option might not always be the best option. Don't skimp out on the word count on your paper because you might just be docked 20 points. Don't read over the material when you really should be making flashcards because it takes less time. Be careful the next few weeks, and make sure you take all the time needed to feel confident and proud of your work.
