This weekend marks the 239th annual Fourth of July celebration. Known as a day to commemorate independence from the British and the birth of the United States, the fourth of July has turned into a long weekend to celebrate with friends and family. The most common of these celebrations is the infamous firework displays that go on all around the country. Here are a list of the top five firework displays on the Northeast.

5- Atlantic City, NJ

This fireworks show takes place over the ever exciting Atlantic City marina. Already a popular location, this place gets even more packed for this show!

4- Philadelphia, PA

Taking place over the Philadelphia Museum of Art, this firework display is the ending to a day full of patriotic events in Philly!

3- Boston, MA

Massachusetts has many historically significant landmarks that were prominent in our nation's march to independence. Once home to the Boston Tea Party is now home to a fireworks display put on by the Boston Pops. Enjoy a great sight over the Charles River!

2- Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. is not only home to the Declaration of Indepence, but also to one of the best firework shows! What better place to celebrate our country's independence then our Capital? The National Mall fireworks go off with the White House, Washington Monument and other iconic monuments in the background.

1- New York, NY

Macy's puts on a magnificent fireworks display every year that overlook the Hudson River. The fireworks are made to coordinate with a special selection of music made for the night. An amazing sight to see in person but don't worry if you can't be in New York! The fireworks are shown on TV every year so you can enjoy the beauty from the comfort of your home!
