Disney movies were a central part of my childhood. I loved all the princesses in their pretty dresses dancing around with their princes. But as I got older I realized that some of the best parts of the movies come from the sidekicks. Here's my list of the top 5 Disney sidekicks:
5. Lumiére and Cogsworth ("Beauty and the Beast")
Cogsworth: [shakes Lumiere's hand in truce] Well, Lumiere, old friend. Shall we let bygones be bygones?
Lumiére: Of course, mon ami. I told you she would break the spell!
Cogsworth: I beg your pardon, old friend, but I believe I told you.
Lumiére: No, you didn't. I told you!
Cogsworth: You most certainly did not, you pompous, paraffin-headed peabrain!
Lumiére: En garde, you... you overgrown pocket watch!"
4. Pascal ("Tangled")
3. Victor, Hugo, and Laverne (the Gargoyles from "Hunchback of Notre Dame")
"Quasi, take it from an old spectator. Life's not a spectator sport. If watchin' is all you're gonna do, then you're gonna watch your life go by without ya."
Acting as comic relief, these three ceramic pals lighten the mood with their humorous antics and banter.
2. Timothy Mouse ("Dumbo")
"The very things that held ya down are gonna carry ya up, and up, and up!"
Timothy never judged Dumbo for his look, instead opting to give him constant encouragement to succeed. Plus he's adorable in his little hat.
1. Jiminy Cricket ("Pinocchio")
"Always let your conscience be your guide."
He's a well-dressed insect who gives impeccable life advice—what's not to love?
