As the semester comes to an end, I've started to reflect on what I would've done differently in my previous semesters here at Kean University. Specifically what classes I wish I'd really taken. Whether you're a junior or a senior, these five classes not only fulfill your elective requirements but they really come along with a great experience - both educational and emotional.
1. Death in perspective with Dr. Norma Bowe.
In one of the most popular classes on campus, Dr. Bowe helps you confront any fears of death you might have with deep discussions, trips to the cemetery and even viewing a live autopsy in order to further understand what happens to our bodies after death.
2. Human sexuality with Dr. Consuelo Bonillas.
Chances are your high school health class didn't cover much before sending you out into the big bad world. Dr. Bonillas approaches every topic with enthusiasm and is far from shy. Despite this you learn everything in a very welcoming environment where there is no such thing as a stupid question.
3. Business and professional writing with professor Shayla Ward.
Now that you're closer to being an adult you're probably about to apply to different internships or part-time jobs to gain experience. With the professor's help you'll dust off your resume and have it looking impeccable in no time.
4. Business and professional communication with professor Gregory Morgan.
If you are unable to take this course at the same time as you take professional writing I would recommend taking it after you've completed the course listed before this. This class is professional writing's soulmate because now that you have your resume ready this course prepares you. In a few weeks you'll be confident enough to sell your skills to any future employer.
5. Community mental health with Dr. Norma Bowe.
Being in another amazing class with Dr. Bowe is something that can't be missed out on. In this class she takes you on a journey of the human psyche. She helps you not only understand yourself, but understand that it's OK to not be OK. After all, we're only human! You get hands on experience in "Operation PB&J" as well as a chance to complete actual practicums .
Go forth and choose classes you'll learn from and love! Remember to make your credits work for you and not the other way around!!
I have taken all of the classes listed except for Death in perspective since it's so hard to get a spot in it.
