On November 18, 2016, a whole new world of adventure will be opened to the public. This date is the release date of Pokemon Sun and Moon created by Nintendo. Here are just a few tips to get your ready for these games!
1. Play through the old games
The new game is bound to have older gens roaming through the long and tall battle grass. It’s always better to know who you run into; it might just make the difference of defeating that first gym leader! Another good reason to play through the older generations would be to relearn your strategy for playing the game. Whether you’re someone who likes to take it slow and play at their own pace, or maybe you’re someone, like me, who likes to rush to finish the story and get familiar with the map of the region, so you can go on to complete your Pokedex, and finally get those juicy legendries! The old games will always have something to contribute to the new ones. Even if this is your first ever Pokemon game, it's always good to know how the games are played through so you aren't running around too lost! Maybe even just watching a few Youtube videos on previous games can help you to pick up some prior knowledge to sitting down and going through your first run by yourself.
2. Decide on your starter.
This is always the most complicated part of a new Pokémon game. Which one could you ever choose? They all seem so perfect in your mind, but alas, Professor Kukui has limited you to only one! You should always look up types of the Pokémon during its first evolution and the second type it gains after the second or third evolution. Always make sure the two types are something you're willing to have on your team. Now...on to which one; the three starters of this gen are going to be Litten, Rowlet, and Popplio. I personally will be going with Rowlet, not only because he is adorable, but because he will be a Grass/Ghost Type once he evolves into Decidueye. I am all for ghost types. My personal favorite will always be Gengar, but being able to have a starter with ghost type moves will make being a ghost type trainer even better! Although you are limited to one starter at the beginning of the game, thanks to breeding and trading, you can always get the other ones later once you have gotten far enough in the game! So, don’t stress too much on this decision!
3. Get to know the new generation.
I am always one to research the Pokémon I will be catching before going through with it. Some of the things I tend to look for are evolution levels. If they gain another type as they evolve, have moves that can be taught, special abilities, and items they can carry to help boost their effectiveness! One new Pokémon I am leaning towards getting is Lycanroc. I am such a sucker for Pokémon that change due to environmental circumstances. It’s always something that has made me appreciate the Pokémon games and how they truly go into so much detail with each Pokémon, making them into a unique character to the game. Lycanroc has a midday and midnight form, both which he gains new moves and new abilities when in each form. This will help to find certain times in the day when it is best to use Lycanroc against certain Pokémon. When he is in his midnight form, and is accompanied by the ability of Vital spirit, it would be best to put him against opposing Pokémon with the power to put others asleep. This ability allows Lycanroc to stay awake against all moves of that form. There are many other new Pokémon being introduced with this new game. If you're as much of a Pokémon nerd as I am, you'll be sure to read up on them all, and already start drafting out what your team will be!
The excitement in me for this new game is extraordinary and I can't wait to go to Gamestop and pick it up! The Aloha forms, new starters, and the rush of learning a new region, all brings me back to the excitement I feel every time a new game is released. I hope these tips helped you to prepare and happy hunting!
