Since college finals are done for the month, high school tests don't resume for a week, and winter is a slow time for the economy, there is no excuse for not reading! If you are an avid reader who continues to add to their growing list of books, you may want to add these three authors to your winter reading list.
1. The Bronte Sisters
The Bronte sisters produced Gothic romance novels that will keep the reader turning at every page. Granted this will be an unpopular opinion, but I adore "Jane Eyre" over " Wuthering Heights" just because the dark ambiance of "Jane Eyre" turns to a happy ending that we know Jane Austen and Bronte fans love, and let's not forget those hopeless Romantics that the Bronte sisters cater to as well...
2. Juliet Dark (Carol Goodman)
This is one of Goodman's pseudomonases she has created. And Goodman's world of fairy tales, demonology, trolls, and various types of Scottish and American folklore unite in a universe that takes a break from vampire romance and zombie adventure novel genres that have literally exploded across the globe. This is the first book, "The Demon Lover" in her notorious Fairwick Trilogy.
Goodman's fantasy novel involve just the right amount of romance that create a Goth's dream come true. Especially because of the brooding Byronic heroes we know and love!
3. Patricia Briggs
Her Mercy Thompson series follows the sexy female skinwalker, Mercy Thompson. She is a mechanic who can transform into a wolf/coyote hybrid. Of course, she is the first of her kind and she is shunned from traditional packs because of her hybrid blood. This eight book series is full of laughs that one of the sarcastic nature would enjoy, and full of delicate romance. Of course, romance is not Mercy's forte.
Briggs also creates this paranormal world inside Washington state where nothing is as is seems, and when you expect the unexpected, even more suspense and mystery occurs. Join Mercy on her hunt for answers to find out her true identity.
I could go on and literally kill you with literature, but for now try to get to these authors, and I am sure you will not want to let them go. Better grab a drink, a blanket and some candles. Let the Gothic essence overtake you deep into the night...
