Ah, your cellphone. It can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. Sometimes it's there to snap a photo of a moment that no one else is around to see, and sometimes it accidentally sends text messages to the person you were talking about in the text.
I'm always getting and sending messages and pictures to and from my friends. Once in a blue moon, someone who should not be receiving a picture or a message by mistake does, and the feeling of wanting to hide under a rock washes over. Cell phones cause great joy but can also be the reason for some majorly embarrassing moments.
- Sending ugly personal Snapchats to the wrong person. You want your crush to know you're cute without makeup on, but they don't need to see you in a facemask.
- Setting a private inside-joke Snapchat as your My Story. That joke was for you and your two best friends, not for an audience of 150.
- Not understanding your crush's sarcasm in a text and assuming he or she hates you. Forgetting that LOL can really derail a conversation. I didn't mean it when I said I was going to kill you!!! Why are you not answering me?!
- Accidentally sending a voice note to the person you were gossiping to your friends about. You were chatting about how to respond to this annoying guy's text, only to have him hear how you really feel about him (and not in the good way).
- Liking someone's Instagram whom you are not even following. True terror is liking a distant acquaintance Insta from 72 weeks ago by the slip of your finger.
- FaceTiming someone random by accident. No, person I talked to one time in 2011, that FaceTime was not a butt dial at all…
- Getting called out for taking a selfie in a public space. Just when you thought you were being sly…
- Having your alarm go off in the middle of class when you have it set to an embarrassing ringtone. It's not much worse than having “Oops, I Did it Again" blast in your 30-person English class.
- When you need to be picked up after sleeping out and you do not have service. “Um, can I borrow your phone to get out of this painfully awkward situation as soon as possible?"
- Or worse, needing to get picked up after sleeping out and your phone has died. “Do you mind sitting here in silence with me for 20 minutes until my phone charges?"
- Uploading a humiliating picture to Facebook when you meant to send it over Messenger. That picture of your friend who looks like a melting old man was NOT meant for all 2,786 Facebook friends.
- Writing out a draft text message to someone you like but sending it before it was perfected. It was supposed to say “hey are you going out tonight?" not “hi r u going out tn?" UGH.
- Getting caught dodging someone's text because they saw you actively liking pictures on Instagram. “No, uh, I wasn't getting your messages… I was on Instagram on my laptop."
- Sub-Tweeting about someone and getting called out by the person you were totally not tweeting about… Okay, so those song lyrics could have maybe been about an ex-boyfriend.. or a friend… or a pet… or a car…
- Texting your best friend something personal but you end up sending it to an acquaintance because of how close in spelling their names are. Erik just found out something about me Erika does not even know yet.
- Running into someone whose text you ignored earlier that day. “I saw your text but totally forgot to respond!"
- Allowing Facebook Mobile to automatically add tags to your pictures, only for it to tag the wrong people. Things get kind of weird when Facebook auto-tags your arch-nemesis' face as your own.
- Butt-dialing your parents while you're in the middle of something they shouldn't know you're doing. “Yes, mom, I'm fine. I'm just awake at 3 a.m. on a Friday to watch a movie."
- Having an ex text you after you deleted their number. “Um, hi, who is this? I got a new phone."
- Attempting to take a sneaky picture of someone but the flash goes off. “I was not taking a picture of us on this date! I was taking one of the food, I swear!"
