With the year coming to a wrap, the next things on our minds after the holiday’s and winter break are the movies coming out in 2016. The box office is full of already familiar movies that we all hope will live up to the hype of the originals. Here is a list of the top movies coming out for 2016:
"Star Trek Beyond"
"Star Trek Beyond," release date July 22, is a sequel to the second Star Trek and will be focusing on the five-year mission. This is a space mission Spock (Zachary Quinto), Kirk (Chris Pine) and the rest of the gang head out in order to explore the final frontier of space. Captain Kirk described the goal of the mission in the original series, “to explore strange new world, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”
"Bourne 5"
"Bourne 5," release date July 29, leading actor is Matt Damon playing Jason Bourne. In this movie it will be leaving off what happened in the last Bourne movie. No official plot description has been released about this movie yet, but we do know that it will be nine years later.
"Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur"
"Knights of the Roundtable" will be released July 22 and will be staring Dijmon Hounsou, Eric Bana, and Charlie Hunnam. This movie is going to be about re-imagining the legend of King Arthur, the 6th century king who defended Britain against Saxon Invaders. The main source for this film will be Thomas Mallory’s “Le Morte d’Arthur,” published back in 1485 as a compilation of French and English tales.
"Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice"
"Batman vs. Superman," the epic showdown of the two most loved DC superheroes, will be released March 25. This movie title explains it all, a fight between Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) before they form the Justice League.
"Captain America: Civil War"
"Captain America" will be released on May 6 and be starting where "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" left off. It takes place with Captain America (Chris Evans) leading the new Avengers. This is not a film where heroes are fighting villains, more so heroes are fighting heroes. There happens to be a conflict between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America that leads to some very sad (but also badass) fight scenes.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" will be released Nov. 18. This movie is based on one of JK Rowling's novels that takes place 70 years before Harry Potter. It is about Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) coming to New York from England in 1926, with his magical bag that is bigger on the inside and houses many magical creatures. He finds out that American wizards are quite fearful of being found out by the public. Something happens and the bag full of magical monsters breaks open.
"Finding Dory"
Finally there is going to be a sequel to the highly acclaimed "Finding Nemo." "Finding Dory" will be released June 17 and is taking place six months after the events of "Finding Nemo." This movie will focused on Dory and her trying to find a way to be reunited with her family and will be set off the coast of California.
"The Jungle Book"
"The Jungle Book," an adaption of an old Disney movie, will be released April 15. This movie will be about a boy who was raised by wolves by the name of Mowgli (Neel Sethi) and his life being threatened by a tiger. Mowgli leaves him and is guided by a panther (Ben Kingsley) and a bear (Bill Murray) as they set out on a journey of self-discovery.
"X-Men: Age of Apocalypse:"
"X-Men" will be released May 27 and will finally have a new super villain other than Magneto, Bolivar Trask and his Sentinels. There will also be a new character, Apocalypse, who is said to be the first mutant. Having this new character added to the franchise will open many doors for the X-Men world concerning the comic books.
"Warcraft"
"Warcraft," based on the very famous video game, World of Warcraft, will be released June 10. The story is about the origins of the initial encounters between the humans and the orc, with an emphasis upon both sides of conflict and will take place in various places from the video game.
" Suicide Squad"
"Suicide Squad," another Marvel movie, will be released August 5. The plot for this movie has yet to be released, but we can expect there will be some similarities to the comic books. The Suicide Squad is officially designated Task Force X, is a secret team of supervillains that have been imprisoned by the US government. This team goes on high-risk missions for the government in exchange for amnesty. If they succeed, their sentences are reduced.
And there you have it ladies and gentlemen, your overview of some of the best movies coming out for 2016.
