2015 has been a groundbreaking year for video games so lets take a look back at what we were graced with.
1. Star Wars: Battlefront.
EA DICE recently developed a reboot of their wildly popular first and third person shooter game based on the Star Wars saga that was originally launched in 2004. This game lets you traverse the many different worlds and operate land and air vehicles in the process. Players have the option to play online or offline but the game does not include a campaign mode. The offline feature includes cooperative missions that can be completed alone or with another player via split screen. The online feature allows you play with up to 39 other players in various different game styles across 12 different maps.
2. NBA 2k16.
2k Sports released their annual version of their NBA game but this year’s had a very surprising and refreshing twist. The MyPlayer feature allowed you to go through the process that all the blue chip recruits go through by starting in high school, picking a college and then declaring for the NBA draft. Spike Lee helped produce this using his story-making skills to add a plot line to this journey. One may also customize their player and play against other players in pick-up games online. With customizing the player, one can customize his shoot-around court by picking from an array of floors, walls, backboards, nets and balls.
3. Fallout 4.
This rendition of the post-apocalyptic survival game is set in Boston, Mass. in the year 2287. The first and third person gaming allows the player to make his way through numerous tasks throughout a campaign. Players can construct and destruct buildings in order to find supplies or build a shelter. They may also be accompanied on some missions that require help.
4. Batman: Arkham Knight.
In this video game, the player controls Batman as he defends an evacuated Gotham City that is under attack from many of Batman’s greatest foes. You get to use a wide range of Batman’s tools and especially the Batmobile in order to solve the puzzles and fight crime in order to restore the city to its original state. The construction of the city and the advanced graphics are what put this game on a new level.
5. NHL 16.
EA Sports releases a new NHL video game every year but this year’s is innovative in how the player possesses the puck. They introduced new ways to deke and stick handle making it harder to defend which leads to higher scoring games. This game has all of the past features such as Be a GM, Be a Pro and Hockey Ultimate team.
6. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
Ubisoft, it seems, produces a new Assassin’s Creed game every couple of months. Anyhow, the 2015 version of the game is set in London in 1858 in the heart of the Industrial Revolution. This rendition does not feature any sort of multiplayer version but does, however, follow a set of twins the campaign mode. The twins wreak havoc through organized crime upon the established order of the Victorian era. This game exemplifies new forms of travel and superior combat.
7. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.
This is the first time EA Sports has placed the Northern Ireland native on their cover and in their title of their PGA Tour video game. Ever since 1998, the game was released under Tiger Woods namesake. This new version incorporates new swing modes and assists along with several mini-games that will enhance your short game tricks.
8. Halo 5: Guardians.
The most recent version of the Halo series was released this year and it includes larger campaign and multiplayer areas. This was the main criticism of the Halo games that came before it. This game is strictly for Xbox 360 and Xbox One because Microsoft publishes it, but it still grossed over $500 million in the first week it was put on the shelves.
9. Battlefield: Hardline.
Battlefield has always lived in the shadows of the Call of Duty series, but I believe this year it has stepped out from that shadow and established itself. This series focuses on crime, heist and policing elements rather than military warfare. That is the reason they were able to incorporate incredible voice accessibility into their game.
10. Madden NFL 16.
How could the annual EA Sports NFL game, famously nicknamed after John Madden since 1988, not make the top 10? This game is constantly bringing in a huge audience and creating new features to its game. This year, they upgraded the passing features and introduced a new feature called Draft Champions, which is essentially the combination of the Ultimate Team feature and fantasy football. Players get to choose exactly who they want on their team and then play against other players online.
