Top 10 Things That Happen When You're A Tomboy

Growing up with friends that are mostly guys, I don't tend to act like most girls. I lot of people tend to be shocked at how boyish I can be sometimes because one day I'll be wearing a pink dress and the other day I'll be in my friend's basement playing COD. Whether you're a tomboy or an outsider looking in, this is what I have noticed over the years.

1. People tend to assume that you're just another girl pretending to like some stuff to impress guys

Lots of girls talk about how much they love COD or football to try to get on the same level as guys, but they tend to fall flat when they are having an actually discussion about it.

2. Even though that's not the goal, guys do tend to find it impressive when you can actually talk about different video game strategies

I would be lying if I said it wasn't satisfying when you discuss how to get through the last boss level and your friends are actually impressed that you know your stuff.

3. There's multiple types of tomboy: skater, athlete, and sometimes you can just joke about things that may not be suitable for your girlfriends.

As much as I like playing sports or watching my friend's games, I don't prefer watching it. I tend to fall in the category of wearing beanies and riding long boards. If you become friends with a lot of guys, you learn to desensitize yourself to some of their crude humor or just join in.

4. People usually think you're dating guys that are more like brothers to you.

A lot of people think there is always something going on between you and your guy friends, even if you don't see it that way at all. I tend to get the questions regarding my friendships, but I usually say "I can't date someone I had a farting contest with."

5. Girls who just play Pokemon Go can be incredibly annoying.

"Oh my gosh I love Pokemon, my favorite is Pikachu."

6. Hats sometimes are more dear to you than other girls

If you're more sporty, baseball caps become your best friend. In my case, I love wearing beanies just because I can get away with not doing my hair.

7. Guys won't take you seriously usually when you first say you're into the same things they are

As previously mentioned, guys tend to be more skeptical about your likes and hobbies than they are with their other male friends because it's pretty unusual to be into the same things that they are.

8. You learn to be a lot more physical than other girls

In the last year, I have wrestled and jokingly punched more times than I can count. Guys tend to be a lot more physical, and other girls get confused when this skinny blond chick is picking a fight with her friends.

9. You express affection in other ways

If I care about you, I won't spew off a long poem about how happy you make me. I'll lightly punch your shoulder and make an insulting joke instead.

10. You love being "one of the guys"

Sometimes, you get a lot of crap for spending so much time with the guys. However, you absolutely love being able to openly talk to them about any disgusting, hilarious thing you want. Girlfriends are important, but a lot of them can be overdramatic. It's great just hanging out with your brothers.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
