So, here I am, seven weeks into my first semester of college. Boy, looking back to the beginning of August 2016, I thought I had it all figured out. Spoiler: I didn't and still don't, but I'm working on it! I figure sharing my experiences here will give a good warning to incoming college freshmen and maybe prevent some disasters. Now, here are my personal top ten biggest shockers of college so far.
1. Towels Don't Dry Completely

Is this due to the higher elevation of being in a dorm? Is there something funky with the air quality on my floor? Who knows! Just as a warning, your towels will be damp every time you go for them.
2. There Is Hair Everywhere

"Well that's because you live on an all girl floor!" While that is correct, it branches much farther than that. Classrooms and hallways and bathrooms, oh my!
3. Professors are chill...sometimes

Throughout
high school your teachers warn you deeply about how college professors stray away from leniency. Consequently, I have found every one of my professors to be insanely cool, understanding, and overall awesome people! Is it an art school thing? We may never know...(probably is).
4. Prepare for Awkward Encounters of the Past

When you live in a place like Cincinnati, where literally everyone knows everyone, you are bound to bump into an awkward hookup, an ex, or even an ex's ex. I would suggest to keep your head held high, remain of utmost confidence, and work it.
5. Purchase a Vacuum

Learn from my mistakes, buy one. It's uncanny how quickly and noticeably a small carpet can collect dust, hair, paper scraps, and crumbs.
6. Procrastination Does Not Work

Did I get away with procrastination in high school? Yes. Am I trying to get away with it in college? Yes. Is it working? No. It is in no way helpful to you or your work.
7. OK Procrastination Slightly Works

Can you pull an all nighter in order to finish a paper or project you had days to work on? Yes you can, but it will result in poor work, poor mental and physical health, you will be sad, and you will call your mom crying.
8. It's OK to Keep High School Friends

Make new friends, but keep the old. It's as simple as that!
9. It's OK to be Home Sick

I live 12 minutes away from my college and I still find myself going home once a week or every other week. Stay in touch with your
family and don't feel like people will judge you for wanting to be with them.
10. Be Yourself

I can't stress this
enough! Don't put up a front to try to fit in with the "cool kids" (news flash there's no such thing as "cool kids" in college) but rather be your true self and your people will come along. No one is better at being you, than you!
