Summer is a great time to get outdoors, experience life and have fun. In the state of Michigan we love to do as much as possible in the summertime after our long, freezing winters. Here is a list of the top ten best things about summer in Michigan.
10. FISHING
It doesn't matter if it is in a lake, river or pond. Whether on the shore or on a boat, here in Michigan we love waking up early to go fishing.
9. BERRY PICKING
Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, huckleberries and boysenberries all grow wild here in Michigan. You can't know the true sweet taste of a berry until you have eaten them freshly picked and sunkissed.
8. SWIMMING
Pools, lakes, beaches and ponds are all fair game for swimming in the summer. There are definite perks to being a state surrounded by fresh water.
7. PARKS
We have more parks than lakes in Michigan and we take full advantage of them. Ones with benches and playgrounds for the children and ones with hiking trails and nature preserves for the adventurers, and everything in between.
6. FARMERS MARKET
Who can resist farm fresh produce at a reasonable price? How about homemade treats and hand crafted goodies? The farmers market has everything we love: great products, deals, atmosphere and supporting local businesses.
5. CAMPING
There is nothing like packing up the car and heading into the woods to relax, enjoy nature and get away from life for a while. Tents, trailers, or cabins? Doesn't matter as long as you have a good fire, good company and good food.
4. DRIVE INS
What's better than going to see a movie? Going to see two movies outside on a huge screen all from the comfort of your car. Add tons of snacks, drinks and a truck bed full of pillows and blankets for the best viewing experience.
3. THE ZOO
Everyone loves going to the zoo: hearing the lions roar, watching the otters frolick, having peacocks try and steal your food. Plus they have pretty sweet souvenirs.
2. WATERPARKS
Let your inner child come out to play in the wave pools and on the water slides of a water park this summer. Just don't forget the sunscreen!
1. THE GREAT LAKES
The number one thing all Michiganders love about summertime is the Great Lakes. Boating, skipping rocks, swimming, water skiing, tubing, or just watching fireworks over the water are the things that fill our hearts with joy.
