The Top 10 Instagram Posts That Just Need To Stop

Seriously though, how many days a week do you go out to brunch?

With every year comes a handful of new social media trends, whether it's Instagram photos, types of tweets, or videos on Facebook. I'll admit, I have sunk into the social media trends from time to time, and yes, they are super intriguing (and not to mention visually appealing). We simply need to recycle out some of these trends, however, and make room for new ones in 2016. Here are some examples:

1. The Study Shot

I can understand the origin of these photos, considering I am an absolute pro at procrastinating. The only difference is that my desk is usually an endless pile of papers and books, not at all neatly assembled in an artsy fashion. It also wouldn't be complete without one's hands conveniently resting on the trackpad. (All jokes aside, S/O to my girl Demi B for this pic; I'm not going to pretend like I don't envy your photography skills on a daily basis.)

2. Replying to Your Own Tweet

...so that it becomes resurrected into all your followers' feeds. We see right through you.

3. The Artsy Latte Shot

We get it, you drink fancy-looking coffee. It was probably cold by the time you finished getting the perfect shot of it.

4. The Overhead Meal Shot

How did the food assemble itself so perfectly on your table? Is your waitress a visual mastermind? I probably would've inhaled my meal without looking back before I could even think of taking a photo of it. (Love you, Dems.)

5. The Double Slash

It seems that lots of Instagram users have been using this one in their captions. You know, the "//" between sentences when a period just wasn't good enough. They're typically surrounding a white girl quote, as well.

6. The Calligraphy Shot

Alright, I'm not even going to act like I'm not jealous of people's skills when it comes to these little inspirational pieces of art. My hand would most likely be unusable due to severe cramping after such an event.

7. Selfie Sunday

Let's be honest, we're getting a bit old for that.

8. The Purse Shot

Is it really possible for the contents of one's purse to tumble out in such a perfect way? I'm pretty sure the only things that come out of my purse at the end of the day are receipts and gum wrappers.

9. The Messy Sheets Pic

We've all seen the pictures of one's perfectly white sheets in a slightly crumpled mess, typically with their legs or laptop resting comfortably upon it. The part that blows my mind is how they even manage to take a picture from an angle like this. Are their bodies bent in half? Is someone else taking it for them? We'll never know.

10. The Overhead Vinyl Shot

I love music as much as the next person, but my life would probably be in danger if I had to stand on a piece of furniture to get this shot for my Insta feed.

So, considering all of the above, what can we vow to keep in 2016?

Those Buzzfeed Tasty videos where they make the food in front of you. Duh.

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
