In this article will be looking at the remaining 5 games on the list. These games are my top tiers of my list. Once I started playing these games, it took almost the jaws of the life to get them away from me. Ok, I will get this disclaimer out the way, this is my top 10 favorites, you have yours and I have mine. I just want to share my love for this games.
So please enjoy my part 2 of my top 10 favorite music based video game (#5-1)
5. Rhythm Thief & The Emperor's Treasure (Sega)
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
I remember back in my Gamestop days, seeing this game in limited quantity in the back room. There was something interesting and unique about it but since I didn't have a 3DS at the time. The only thing I could do was watch as each copy was sold. However, I knew that one day I would be able to play this game. A year or so later, I managed to get my hands on a 3DS and was it worth the wait. Well it wouldn't be on my number 5 spot if it wasn't.
You play an art thief that is trying to find his missing father. Using the rhythm and well timed button inputs, you can defeat enemies, avoid security patrols, and distract civilians. I highly recommend picking this one up. I will say unless you want a new physical copy, It is best to go for the digital version through the 3DS store for it is the cheapest.
4. Rez (Q Entertainment)
Platform(s): Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4
Rez is fun little gem for your weird rhythm game lover. I remember when this game was being ported over to the Playstation 2, I was ecstatic about it because I finally got a chance to play this. One of the interesting thing about the series was the Japanese version. There was a special edition that included a device known as the Trance Vibrator that pulse a stronger vibration then the dualshock controller. This led to some weird and unique commercials for the game that still holds up to today.
I see these gamers have embrace the true power of Rez
So about the gameplay, you can clearly see where Child of Eden was rooted from. You are a hacker that is place to stop anything negative (Viruses or Firewalls) from bring delay to the rebooting of Eden. Every attack that you dish out bring rhythm the stage you are playing. You can level up your AI, to help deliver more damage to oncoming enemies that will overwhelm you if you don't pay attention. If you can't find the original for the Sega Dreamcast or Playstation 2, you can get the HD version for the Xbox 360. There is a remake designed for the PlayStation VR virtual reality unit called Rez Infinite, which will be released on October 13, 2016.
3. Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 (iNiS)
Platform: Nintendo DS
Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 is the direct sequel to the Nintendo DS, Osu Tatakae! Ouendan. The same group that made this game created the game that was released in the states, Elite Beat Agent. Your goal is simple, you are to cheer up the down and out clients that hired you. Example, a young student has to study for a upcoming exam, he feels unmotivated, so he hires an Ouendan (Cheer Squad) to give him the encouragement he needs. As the stage plays on, depending on how good you do, you will see the progress of the client. If you do poorly, it will show through cut scenes.
The music is very engaging and the gameplay is highly addictive. The final two stages of Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 was the best thing I ever played. The feels were way too deep, that I was almost in tears while I was on the train station. If you play Elite Beat Agent, you should no trouble get through this fun gem of a game. Good luck finding this game though, since it is a Japanese import. I still say find a way to check it out if you can.
2. Persona 4 Dancing All Night (Altus)
Platform: Playstation Vita
This game was a match made in gaming heaven. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a well beloved series in the franchise. I learned about this series through my friends that praised the role playing game. So I picked up Persona 4 Golden for my vita, which is an update to the Playstation 2 version. OHMYLAWD!!!, the game was so hella fun. I could actually do an full article about my play through and my new found love for the Persona series as a whole. :)
It is now two years later and the Persona 4 hype train was still going strong. There was an announcement about three new games of the franchise during an Atlus event in Japan in 2013. Today, I will focus on is on my number 2 spot, Persona 4 Dancing All Night. I was already so in love with the game that I have to go out and pre-order the limited edition. Was it worth it though?
Persona 4 fanboy, much. Hell yea, I am ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
As you can see, the content was overflowing. However, like I mentioned earlier, I can do a whole article about Persona 4 series. P4DAN is a spin off of the series and the events takes place a month after the epilogue of Persona 4 Golden. Yu Narukami and the rest of the Investigation Team are asked to help Rise with her return to fame during the Love Meets Bonds Festival. As they prepared for the LMB, a mysterious force pulls them into a world called the Midnight Stage.
The gameplay is simple yet it will kick you ass if you aren't quick enough. The soundtrack compliments the game by having upbeat remixes to the various songs throughout the Persona 4 series. This game was so good that I had to get the platinum trophy for that game. The absolute must have for any Vita owners and Persona 4 fans alike.
1. Gitaroo Man (KoeI, iNiS)
Platform: Playstation 2, (Gitaroo Man Lives) Sony PSP
Even though, I have a huge game crush on Persona 4 Dancing All Night, it isn't the game that is sitting on the throne of my top 10. The game that belong there in my book goes to a PS2 classic known as Gitaroo Man. My very first rhythm based game that I have ever played. I can tell you one of the many things I loved about this game is that each song is original. Each stage that you play had a different genre of music. One stage had you playing Hip Hop where the next stage you would be doing acoustics.
I remember being at a game store when I was in high school and I was watching one of the worker playing this game. It was like love at first sight. The music was amazing, the graphics for it's time were beautiful, and the gameplay looked simple. I had to have it but sad, I was broke that day. I told myself that one day I will play this game for myself. Three years later with the help of my mother, I obtained the copy of Gitaroo Man (which by the way, I still have in my possession). I ran home and throw this game in my PS2. I played through the fun tutorial, the first and second stages, and after that.....the game without mercy started to kick my ass.
Hello, this is Mojo King Bee. After playing his stage for the first time, his new name will turn into Mr. What The Hell Man
I remember the three hours I played trying to beat this stage. I almost gave up a few times, but my determination and gaming spirit wouldn't allow me to stop. After all that, I finally defeat him and I was able to move on to the next stage. My relief was however short lived, the next stage was a rapid fire dodge session. Why God Why? You better believe I found an exploit to beat that stage, which was to open my ps2 case with that stage was playing. INSTANT S RANKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can say though through those experiences, it made me cherish the game. I am very grateful to have play this game and enjoy the weird and randomness of it. So I highly recommend that you pick this golden goose up if you can find a copy. It is worth the price and you wont regret it.
There, I finished my very first top 10. These ten games all made an impact in my gaming life and I had to share the love with you guys. So please feel free to let me know how you feel about my top 10 in the comments below.
