Together we work to win. We have one goal to work towards: we strive to win. As a team, we practice and spend countless hours together—on and off the field—to achieve that goal. Together, we push each other to our limits. No one understands the game, or what we do, other than our teammates. Together, we all cringe as we patiently wait for our coach to blow that whistle while we stand on the end line. Together, we run through the opposite end line. That whistle might hurt us, but we wouldn't want to go through the pain with any other people.
Everyone on the team has each other's backs. We might make a mistake here and there, but it won't matter; we're on a team for a reason. When a teammate has an off day, we are there to pick her up. On the odd chance that you have an off day, you better bet your bottom dollar that your team will be there to lend a helping hand. Everyone on the team is in it together. Everyone wants the best for you, and everyone is together for reason.
Achieving our goal is always in the front of our minds. Together, we force each other to be the best we can be. We want nothing less than the best. We push each other to the limit in order for our teammates to have an easier time reaching their greatest potential, which benefits the team in return. No individual member would be able to reach his or her potential without the help and support of those in the team. We achieve success together. No individual can do it all; we need each other.
More often than not, our teammates become our best friends, and not just because we are forced to spend two to three hours a day together for practice; our teammates see our true colors. We witness each other at our best and worst. Together, we achieve more because of the relationships we create off the field. Both on and off the field, we want more for each other. We experience the joys of winning, and, on occasion, we are there to wipe each other's tears as they run down our cheeks. In the end, everyone pushes harder and does more together to achieve our goal. We do what we love for our teammates.
If you're like me, you take being a part of team for granted. It's not until the season is over that we realize how amazing it is to be a part of a group of motivated and talented athletes. If we're lucky, our teammates are our friends off the field too, but even those who aren't are still important, and have made a significant impact on our lives. Being a college athlete is an experience like no other. The journey we travel and the memories we make are incredible, but they would mean nothing without our teammates. Together, everyone achieves more.
