One of the great things about fashion is that it changes all the time and can be inspired by almost anything, like the buildings outside, paintings, nature, and so much more. Fashion trends also repeat. Recently we have seen a come back of crop tops, overalls, and even jelly sandals!
Here are 13 outfits inspired by movies from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s! If you need a reference to the outfits, click the movie title.
1. Ariel - "The Little Mermaid" (1989)
Ariel is known for her bright red hair, green tail, and shell top. You too can rock the Ariel look and can complete the outfit with a pair of sandals!
2. Rose DeWitt Bukater - "Titanic" (1997)
Rose is one of the main characters of the movie "Titanic." She has a lot of beautiful outfits showing off the styles of the 1910s. This outfit represents the 1910s, but in a modern way. The black heel, white coat, and black skirt pull together the basic look. The hat really pulls the outfit together in a not-so-in-your-face way. Add a blue heart necklace to really represent the "Titanic" look.
3. Trinity - "The Matrix" (1999)
The computer program and hacker is always looking superhuman in her all-black get-up. This black outfit with the hint of green is perfect for a subtle Trinity outfit. No "Matrix" look is complete without a pair of sunglasses.
3. Smurfette - "The Smurfs" (1981)
Smurferre is the only female of the group, but she doesn't seem to mind! You can pull off her look with a loose white top and a pair of white heels. Adding blues and yellows really represent Smurfette.
5. Hedwig - "Harry Potter" (2001)
Hedwig is the important companion and mail delivery owl of Harry Potter. The owl T-shirt with small details, like the feather purse, owl ring, and the "Deathly Hallows" necklace pull this outfit together. Also, who wouldn't love some brown boots?
6. Chewbacca - "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" (1980)
Just like Chewbacca says, "RRRAARRWHHGWWR." A little bit of fur is all you need to do a casual look of this character. The white and brown details don't overwhelm the look. You don't want to actually look like Chewbacca.
7. Ariel Moore - "Footloose" (1984)
You can't pull off this outfit with out the red boots! The ripped jeans, white tee, and colorful cardigan add a little bit of extra spunk to this country girls outfit! It's even great to dance in!
8. The Goblin King - "The Labyrinth" (1986)
"You remind me of the babe," and you'll look like a babe in this outfit. This night time Goblin King look can be pulled off for any night occasion. The white necklace can even be changed out for a white scarf.
9. Claire - "The Breakfast Club" (1985)
Diamond earrings really make this look, especially because Claire gives one away to the bad boy of the film. Pink and browns are what make this 1980s detention schoolgirl outfit come together.
10. Tyrannosaurus Rex - "Jurassic Park" (1993)
There is a lot of hype around dinosaurs, especially since the release of "Jurassic World" just a month ago. You can look like you have visited the park with an original Jurassic Park shirt, ripped jeans, and dino accessories.
11. Wilson - "Castaway" (2000)
I don't know about you, but my heart broke when Wilson floated out to sea. This character doesn't have any lines, and he is not even alive, but we all felt something when this character "died." The Wilson look is complete with a black and white stripped outfit and red details. The thinner the black lines in the dress, the better! You could even pair a stripped shirt with white jeans.
12. The House - "Up" (2009)
The colorful house captured our hearts taking viewers on an adventure with Mr. Fredricksen and Russell. The house had to stay behind once it reached Paradise Falls, but we know it was there just like Ellie would have wanted. Any colorful balloon shirt will make this outfit. It can be paired with almost anything, but can go with jeans and sneakers to make it more casual.
13. Zazu - "The Lion King" (1994)
Zazu is a colorful character in "The Lion King." The blues and oranges look so good together. Paired with feather earrings and a detailed bag, you can represent this bird of many colors! Zazu is not a king, but you'll look like a queen!
