What is it like to be truly happy?
Our whole lives we are searching for things we may never find. We all just want to be successful. We all want a significant other, friends, a good job, money, or things to just go simply how we want them to go.
What no one ever told us, though, is that other people can’t make you happy. Money can’t make you happy. Having someone to love and hold isn’t going to make you happy either.
True happiness comes from within.
It’s the things you do, the confidence you have, the desire to try harder and glorify God, that make yourself happy.
It can be as simple as listening to a song you like, or as simple as treating yourself to ice cream when you know you probably shouldn’t.
Maybe it's as onerous as working harder, striving for perfection, or praying for more guidance and strength to persevere.
While you’re working hard, people are going to say negative things to you or about you. People are always going to try to bring you down when you are happy. As they say, “misery loves its company.”
But who cares?
An important key to being happy is to care less. Not necessarily being care-free, but caring less about the little things that don’t matter. Care less about the negative people in your life that bring you down.
Don’t let the little things bother you, for they are not important. Whether someone honks their horn at you while driving or someone calls you a name; that shouldn’t destroy your happiness.
Maybe you didn’t get that promotion at work,
Maybe you got a B on a test you studied really hard for.
Maybe your best friend and you got into a friendship-ending fight.
Maybe your relationship came to an end.
Yes, those things are awful; but they are just temporary. People are going to come and go in your life. You aren’t always going to be the best at everything you do. You may not always get what you want either. We fail to see that none of those things dictate your happiness.
True happiness comes from within.
Only you can find your center. Only you can make yourself happy. People and items can bring joy to your life, but all those things are temporary.
If you aren’t happy only you can change it. You can wake up the next morning and change your attitude. Sure, things might not be going in your favor, but not everything is as terrible as you think.
To be happy, you must change your perspective.
To be happy, you must be carefree.
To be happy, you must work hard.
Most importantly, to be truly happy, you must live in the present, laugh at the moments, and forget the things that don’t matter.
True and genuine happiness can only come from within.
