To Those Who Underestimate Themselves

You are an amazing human being. This is for you, to show you how great you are.

To Those Who Underestimate Themselves
Juila Caesar

Hey you. I know you're probably going through a rough time right now, with classes and everything just getting busier as the year goes on. You might be questioning everything right now, even yourself and the things you are good at, or if you are good at anything. Your world could be turning upside down and everything could be changing. You could be going through any number of things. But in spite of all of it, you are still an amazing, determined, and hard working person. That is, as my friend told me earlier this week, the very essence of bravery. I didn't realize that myself until they said that to me. It is bravery. And that is what you, too, also possess.

To those who don't think they are good at anything, I am going to say to you: you are wrong. You mean so much to different people and you may never know that. Your talents are more than what the world sees as remarkable. You don't fit into the world's definition. You are your own person.

Many of my friends don't always view themselves in the highest of regards, but to them, I want to say this: You are of immeasurable value and worth, even if you cannot see it. You do so much and deserve far more recognition than what you receive now.

What is beautiful about all of you is that you are willing to listen. You may not be able to change the circumstances that life has put forth, but if a friend needs to get something off their chest, you will take the time to listen.

And you all are talented! You can sing. You can dance. You can do all kinds of art. You're fantastic at photography. You can write. There are so many different things that you can do and you deserve to acknowledge that in yourself.

I know, from personal experience, that you have impacted my life in many ways. I have learned so much from each of you. How to dance, how have fun, how to listen, and how to be a great friend. You have been there for me at my very lowest, when I did not know where to go or who to go to. You helped me get a job. Even now, I am going through a period of change, and you have been there to help guide me through it, to tell me that "it'll be okay in the end, and if it's not okay, it is not yet the end," and you've let me know that you will help be a support for me.

You are amazing people and I don't know where I would be without each of you. I have grown as a person in every experience I have had with you, and I am a better person for having been able to know you. You have such a power to impact others' lives and you are doing it without even intending to. You are just being the great person that you are.

So never forget that. You are brave, beautiful, talented, and phenomenal people, and you should never think of yourselves as anything lesser than that. You deserve the world. And if you ever need a friend to help you fight for it, I'll be there.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
