Here's To Those Who Have Never Fit In With The Crowd

And for the most part, it could be a good thing.

Being the black sheep could have either been someone you have always been or it could just happen to surge now. Whichever one it may be, I'm here to tell you that it is okay to not fit in with the crowd.

I know the feeling of always being the one excluded from conversations, in plans, or rarely having someone make the plans first. But sometimes, that's okay because it could be done out of respect. My values could differ from theirs.

Outcasts can change the world. We have a world that is free to roam and a mind that is loud while we remain silent. Our experiences have taught us that it is okay to be alone for the most part, because that's when we have time to think.

Not having many friends saves us from unwanted trouble or awkward situations, it also strengthens our self-esteem because we are worried about what we think, not what others think. We are unafraid to step out into the world and attempt something new.

If you're like me, you have had your share of individuals who don't like you without there being any reason. Sometimes our light shines extremely bright for some, and that's okay.

Whenever you have had conversations with other people, you slowly realize that most of the time you cannot find a way to relate to them, and vice versa. It's not always a bad thing, we all like different things and we were made differently.

But one thing is for sure: many people observe and watch your every move. You are probably the person that they run to when they are in need of advice or need a solution.

Your wisdom and loyalty run deep. Although you may be an outcast, your time alone has allowed you to think about things more critically without having anyone tell you that you are wrong or dispute it. In fact, if there is a dispute, you enjoy sharing your side of your opinion.

If you have a unique taste for fashion or culture, you find it difficult to find what it is that you need. Whether it is that antique record or that 60s sweater, you will endlessly search until you have acquired it.

Being an outcast isn't a cry for help, it's who we are and it teaches us a lesson. We are made strong throughout our lifetime and we can be sure that we stand out from others in certain situations.

Use your light wisely!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
