What I wish I would have known...

Dear Teenage Me,

I want to start this by saying, you have no idea what you are capable of. Don’t think for a second anything that all of those bullies tell you is true. They have no idea who you are on the inside. They have no idea how big your heart is and what you are capable of.

There are some things that you should know about high school, boys, drama, all of it. To sum it up, it isn’t worth it. None of it. The boys aren’t worth it. They are just as confused as you are. They have no idea what they want and they have no idea who you really are. High school is dumb. It has nothing to do with who you are and what you are going to become. It has a little to do with it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t change it. Drama will always be there. It follows you no matter where you go. The importance is knowing what truly is important and the drama that is worth being a part of. If the drama isn’t worth being a part of, let it go.

You should also know some things about who you are now. You are a hell of a fighter. You never ever give up. You fight for everything you have and you never give up. You are stronger than you will ever know. You have dealt with a lot of shit up to this point, but guess what, you continue to put up with shit and you still knock it out of the park every single time. You are perfect just the way you are. Teenagers always focus on what they look like. Instead of that, maybe focus on who you are. That is the important part.

You should also know, life gets better. You may think this is the end. You may even want to make it the end, but your book is not finished. You have a hell of a way to go till you find out who you really are and what you can accomplish. You cannot just give up. You have to keep pushing. Life isn’t always so hard. It really is worth it. It takes times for everything to calm down.

In the end, don’t let anyone tell you who you are. Don’t let labels define who you are. Don’t let the scale tell you who you are. Don’t let a grade define who you are. Don’t let a guy tell you who you are. Don’t let your “friends” tell you who you are. Do not let anyone tell you who they think you are. You are more than any of those people know. One day you will see this all. You will prove to yourself that all the hard work and dedication is worth it.

To my teenage self, don’t quit, get your heart broken, cry a little, laugh a lot, try your best, no matter what. Your future self is looking forward to meeting you later in life.

Love,

Your Future Self

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
