Spring Break is over and we are now at the homestretch of the semester. As the semester comes to a close, the work load gets heavier and heavier. As the days become longer and the weather gets warmer, my mind is far from all of the work I have to do. All I want to do is lay out on the beach and work on my tan. It is safe to say that I am so over school and ready for Summer.
You are probably in a similar position that I’m in. You can’t stop thinking about how wonderful summer vacation really is. It is a time dedicated to sleeping for long hours, laying out on the beach all day, and the long, fun, and overall incredible Summer nights. Of course, if you’re a broke college student like myself, then you will likely have a job, but at least you are getting paid to do it! Getting paid for a to watch kids or scoop ice cream beats studying for a test hands down. The lack of academic and adult-like responsibilities that Summer has to offer is what every college student longs for. And the best part is, you get to spend it with your best friends you have known for years.
Complaining about workloads is something that every college student does, it’s in our nature. However, as much as we don’t want this work, it is the ultimate reason why we are here, and none of us have the power to ask the dean for less homework and a shorter school year. We are paying thousands and thousands of dollars to get a degree and ultimately have a successful career in the long run. Complaining about your work is not going to make Summer come any sooner, and not working to your fullest potential would be a huge waste of your parent's money and your own time.
Even though being at school may seem like an all-work-no-fun situation sometimes, you will still have some time to have fun with friends if you manage your time wisely. Missing your hometown friends is only normal. It is understandable that you want to be back with them enjoying your Summer vacation, but don't forget about your friends at school! You may be with them everyday now, but in a few weeks, you won't be able to see them for another four months! You most likely won't be seeing them at all over the summer, so treasure your time with them now and try to do something fun with them.
To be honest, there is no way to sugar coat the challenge that college truly is. Nothing about it is easy, but thinking negatively and constantly complaining isn’t going to make it any easier. Make the best of everything you do! You are at school for a degree, so study like you never have before. When you have some free time, have some fun times with the friends you’ve made. It may seem like the so-called “homestretch” of the semester is dragging now, but the busier you are with your precious time, the faster it will go by. College only comes around once, so make the best of every minute of it! Work hard and have fun now, and a warm, relaxing, and fun Summer vacation will be here before you know it.
