Overachiever: A person who is motivated by their ideals. One who strives for various needs of pure perfection.
Many times overachievers are not seen in a positive light. We are known as sticks-in-the mud or boring. The funny thing is that we do not even realize we are overachievers in the first place. We are just a group of young adults that tend to look to the future. We pile on classes so we can be done with school, but not because we love studying.
We are people with big dreams who strive for perfection because that is all we know. We live in fear of disappointing our families and we strive for success. For many of us, we are the first-generation college students. We are trying to do right and we want to be successful so that our parents and siblings can have a better life.
Here are a few signs that you are an overachiever:
1. You look towards the future.
You are constantly thinking about your next internship or how you are going to improve your resume. Your friends are tired of hearing about your plans for next summer or the first job you hope to land with some large corporation.
2. You go to school full-time and you have a job.
As overachievers school is not good enough. We need to work our butts off so that we can build up our resume. We spend long hours completing assignments and studying, and if we aren't doing that we are working super long hours so we can help our parents pay for school or so we can start saving for our futures.
3. Your day is filled with lists.
In order to complete the overwhelming amount of tasks you have planned for the day, you must create a list. Without this list, our days would consist of Netflix because we would be under the impression that all of our tasks have been completed.
4. Passing is never good enough.
It is true that Cs get degrees, but what we have realized is that those Cs will not land you your dream job. Hard work and dedication is what it truly takes to achieve your goals and we will not settle for anything less.
5. You're a perfectionist and worry wart.
Every task we complete must be done perfectly. We are constantly double checking for mistakes and we worry that we have forgotten a step or a assignment. We are always worried about tomorrow's assignments and errands and thoughts about our future keep us up late at night.
6. You are modest.
Yes, you have achieved great things and you have done well, but you do not want your friends or your family to put you on a pedestal.
7. Your dreams are out of the ordinary.
Some overachievers dream of being doctors, lawyers and businessmen. Others dream of writing, creating and inventing. People who are not overachievers might have similar goals. Our difference is that we take these dreams one step further. We do not want to just be doctors, we want to find a cure for cancer. We do not want to just be inventors, we want to find a new source of energy. The overachievers are the ones that will shape and recreate the future. Watch out for us sticks-in-the-mud, we might just change your lives for the better!
