Anyone who knows me knows how much I love and care about the people in my life. I take their pain as my own and will do anything to end it. Recently, one of the most important people in my life has been verbally and emotionally attacked by a group of three people. That's right, at almost twenty years old, we are still dealing with bullies. I pride myself on the ability to keep myself out of drama that is not mine. However, I can not stand idly by as my best friend is being torn down. When you hurt her, you're hurting me as well. I am not saying their names out of respect for their privacy. So, to the three people doing this to her, this is for you.
To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I am disgusted. It is 2016 and you all still find it appropriate to hide behind the masks of a screen and blast violent, hurtful words at someone. I hope it makes you feel good to type the words "Whore" and "You're nothing" to someone who has done absolutely nothing to deserve it. I also hope you took the time to consider your own imperfections and mistakes while throwing hers in her face.
How many people does this world have to lose to suicide before we realize that bullying is not okay? No matter what you think about a person, there is always more to their story, always something you don't know about. Everyone has their secrets and insecurities that they must deal with on a day to day basis and it is so sad that others are just so careless and don't consider how they are making someone feel.
But freedom of speech, right? It's in the Constitution, so I guess you can say whatever you want. No. Freedom of speech is not the right to harass, abuse and dehumanize others. It is not the right to spit out hate with the goal of breaking someone down in the process. No one has the right to make someone feel like less of a human.
Here is the last thing I will say on the matter. All that time, effort, hate that you stored up and threw out in hopes of breaking her down will not work. She is strong, she is beautiful, and she is relentless. I and the many people who love her will not let her forget how incredible she is. What you are doing and the things you are saying, says absolutely nothing about who she is but speaks volumes about who you really are.
Blowing out someone else's candle won't make yours shine any brighter.
Anyone who is reading this and is going through something similar to this or knows what it is liked to be attacked like this, please do not let anyone's hate or ignorance stop you from being the best and happiest person you can be.
With love,
Hunter
