To the little girl at the beach:
I was watching you play in the sand, run up from riding the waves on your boogie board, and hearing your laugh that was so contagious.
You were happy. You were content. You didn't have a worry in the world.
It got me thinking, though. Right now, you have no worries in the world, but the world you live in, whether you know it or not, is not an easy one.
I was thinking back when I was your age, not knowing what was ahead for me. All the adventures I would take, people I would meet, and hardships I would face growing up.
I looked at you, happy as a clam, and thought, "She has no idea what's coming." But you know what? I hope that by the time you are older, becoming an adult will be easier because the world will be a better place.
A world where girls aren't objectified by men.
A world where women aren't scrutinized on social media by other women.
A world where the words that we say to others, are kind, helpful, and honest.
A world where if someone is in need, we all run to help.
A world where being mean and rude to others for no reason isn't even a thought.
A world of positivity and goals.
So, to the girl at the beach, I wish you the best. Life is going to be a complicated one, it's going to be hard at times, but it's going to be amazing and I have no doubt you will do great things.
But for now, keep building those sand castles and riding those waves, because you're killer at it!!
