I'm writing this as much to you as I am to me.
I know that if I took your phone, opened your Instagram app, and scrolled to the "search" option, at least 6 profiles belonging to beautiful women will have shown up in your search history. The same goes for Facebook and Twitter. I know you have notifications turned on for those same girls, probably on both Twitter and Instagram.
So other than being a top notch social media stalker, what does this mean for you?
I know.
I know how often you spend looking at each girl's profile, admiring how pretty they are and how much you wish you were like them. How much you want to look just like her, do your makeup like her, have a body like hers.
What about you?
What about the way you do your makeup? Or how nice your body is? Or the way you smile? Doesn't that matter too?
I know how you feel. Scrolling and scrolling, crying in your room by yourself because you don't want to admit how insecure you feel. I also know that me spewing at you how pretty you are and how much you matter isn't going to change a damn thing in your mind. You and I are one in the same.
So don't listen to me. Listen to yourself.
I'm not saying to block those girls on Instagram. Maybe, turn off the notifications. Focus more on loving yourself, focus on more positive self talk. A good friend told me once that I have to stop hating my body, because I only get one and so do you.
Another woman's beauty is not the absence of your own. And I know, I know your scrolling is not out of spite or hate. Your intentions aren't to hurt anyone, but in turn you're hurting yourself, and as a fellow woman, I can't stand to see you do that.
Girl to girl: love yourself, you're worth it.
