Hang in there.

Hey, you.

It is safe to say that I understand what you are feeling.

People say that high school is the best four years of your life, so hold on tight.

I remember starting 9th grade and one of my mom’s friends telling me this exact thing. I proceeded to go on a trip with her down memory lane, complete of her fondest high school memories.

High school is awesome for some people. They love it. Maybe it really is the best four years of their lives; but, it was not for me. It is not for you. And, that is okay.

You cannot wait to graduate and get out. They say not to rush it because one day, you are going to look back and miss high school. Hey, maybe you will. I am not saying that you should rush any day. Live in the moment and embrace all that this life has for you. Embrace your high school memories so much.

However, I can tell you that I look back and I do not miss it. In fact, the thought of ever going back to high school sounds horrible to me. And again, that is okay.

There was nothing wrong with my high school. Classes were good. Teachers were nice. My grades were great. I had a good group of girls that I spent most of my time with. It was fine.

It was the same routine day after day. I got sick of it, and I did not thrive there.

Some people do thrive in high school. Some people love it and wish that they could go back. Some people made their lifelong friends in high school. These are the people that they will grow old with. They will look back and laugh about high school parties, prom, teachers, and talk about what what’s-his-name – you know, that hot guy from Biology class – is up to.

This is all great. This just was not it for me.

I made some great memories in high school. Really, I did. There are some stories that I will end up telling my husband and our children. We will laugh about them together and I will think about them from time to time, but not as often.

My best four years have so far been the time spent in college. Maybe these years will even be a time after. And, they will most likely be yours too.

I have made friends that I will remember for the rest of my life in college. They are friends that I hope to stay in contact with for years after.

I made some of the best memories of my life in college as well, and I am only a sophomore. I have a lifetime of experiences ahead of me, after school, as well.

They say not to rush high school and that you will regret wishing for it to be over so soon.
I could not wait for high school to end, and I can legitimately say that graduation day was one of the happiest days of my life.

As much as I wish for you to enjoy each day’s blessings and embrace your time in high school as much as you can, I do not think that there is anything wrong with getting excited for it to be over. You have a lifetime of adventures ahead of you. Be excited. Look forward to it.

I am looking forward to them for you and I wish you the very best in this life and forever after.

Love,

A Currently Thriving College Student

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
