To the girl who is content with being single.
Going into my freshman year of college I set a lot of goals for myself; I wanted good grades, to make new friends and to be involved in various clubs and such. However, one goal I set for myself was to stay single until I was done with college. Whenever I talk about this, people think it's a joke. They don't believe I'll be able to do it; some say I won't even make it through my freshman year without finding a boyfriend. However, they are mistaken and here's why:
This is an open letter to the girl who is content with being single because I myself am that girl. Right now, focusing on relationships and trying to catch the attention of others isn't my main concern. At this point in my life, my main concern is bettering myself, focusing on my future and enjoying life. I'm really content with where my life is right now and the direction it is headed in. I don't need a boyfriend to give my life validation when I have that on my own.
Dear girl who is content with being single,
Enjoy Life! It's OK to put yourself first because you have to do what's best for you. Don't let anyone convince you that you need a boyfriend because I'm here to tell you that you don't. You're strong and independent, and that's most definitely not a bad thing. Continue enjoying life and spending time with family and friends. Make memories that you'll remember years from now. When the time is right, your dream boy will come along and you'll know. Don't rush into a relationship because you think you have to have one.
Lastly, I know it's frustrating to constantly be asked, "Oh my gosh why are you still single?" My answer for that is always, "I'm just really content with where my life is at right now so someone would have to be pretty amazing to become a part of it." Keep your chin up, enjoy life and make the most of it. There's nothing wrong with being single and being happy about it.
From,
Your fellow single gal
