To The Girl Who Always Blames Herself

It is not your fault.

You've been hurt. Not just once, but multiple times. With every new heartache, you blame yourself. You blame yourself for things that are completely out of your control.

You blame yourself for giving those who say they love you chance after chance, just for them to hurt you again. You blame yourself because you are the one who gives second chances, but you are not to blame for their habit of taking you for granted. Having a forgiving heart is not a mistake. Loving is not a mistake. Hurting someone you love is.

Other people hurting you shows something about who they are. You taking the blame shows something about who you are. You are a soul who lets pain fall on her so that others will not have to experience it. You, my darling, are a heart of gold who can only see shades of Auburn. You don't deserve to blame yourself for other's mishaps. You are hurting yourself trying to save others.

People have walked away from you without explanation. People have loved you and then decided not to. With every goodbye, you think of all of the things you could have done to make them stay. You blame yourself for them deciding not to love you when the truth is, all you were doing was being you.

There have been times when the unthinkable has happened, and you find some reason to pin it on yourself. You believe you should be able to stop the inevitable. When things that are out of your control happen, it is not your fault.

When others hurt you, it is not your fault.

Sometimes we have to experience pain to see different shades of the world, but we can't blame ourselves for that pain. You can't blame yourself for the pain that others bring to you.

You have a forgiving heart and a soul that looks for the best in everyone, but you can't seem to find the best in yourself. But there is beauty in you. A beauty that is visible to everyone around you, you just have to search for it.

It is important to realize that everything that happens to you, or everything that goes wrong, isn't the result of you.

You are tearing yourself down.

You want to save the world, but you first need to save yourself.

It is natural to think we could change the results of something terrible. But the important thing is noticing that sometimes we just can't. We can't let that linger with us. We can't let the bad things hold us captive. We can't blame ourselves for all of the pain that the world offers because that just leads to more pain.

You see love in everything around you. You give chance after chance and that is okay because you deserve to give chances to those you believe deserve it. You did your part, what they do with that is up to them, but don't blame yourself for their choices.

Learn to believe that you aren't the cause of all the pain brought to you because you aren't.

You are a girl willing to forgive the world because everyone makes mistakes.

But you, my dear, are not the mistake.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
