Are You Ready To Be In Love?

Just because you haven't found "the one your soul loves" yet doesn't mean you never will.

Are You Ready To Be In Love?
Kelly Garton

Dear Single One,

I know how you feel. Trust me. You feel unworthy, unlovable, lonely, ugly, hopeless, defeated, sad or depressed because you haven't found "the one." But let me tell you something: you are loved.

Just because you haven't found "the one your soul loves" yet doesn't mean you never will. God hasn't forgotten about you. Your desires and cries for a mate have not gone unnoticed by God. Your tears haven't gotten lost in the fibers of your pillow. God has seen and heard your cries, and He is here to tell you that He has someone absolutely perfect just for you; you will just have to wait.

In this time of waiting, I urge you to take some time and evaluate your own heart. What are the qualities and characteristics you want your future husband to have? Are you exemplifying those characteristics? Are you everything love says it is? Are you patient and kind? Do you envy others (for being in a relationship, or having your "dream guy," "dream bod," dream house," "dream job" or any other reason) or boast? Are you arrogant or rude? Are you irritable or resentful? Do you rejoice in wrong-doings instead of the truth?

Wow. Now how's that passage for a wake-up call? I want you to try something. Wherever those verses say the word "love," I want you to put in your name as a reminder to be those qualities. If we want to be loved, we have to learn what love is and what love is not.

First and foremost, we must know that God is love. And if God is love, we must know that He loves us enough to save us for someone special. I know I'm preaching to the choir here because I constantly pray that The Lord would just show me who I'm supposed to marry already. But I've had a reality check. I've had to do some self-examining because I am definitely not all that love says it is. I am naturally an impatient person (thanks, Pops), but I've learned that oftentimes God puts us in situations where we are forced to wait so we can experience His goodness.

No matter how old you are, be patient because after all, that is what love is, right? Time is going by so, so fast, and I do not want to look back 20 years from now wishing I would have done something else with my life instead of complaining about being single.

These times right now are precious. So you know what? Hang out with your friends. Go get milkshakes or a Dodge's corn dog at 2:00 a.m and ride around with your besties who will be there for your resties. Make some memories. Laugh so hard you get some abs (that'd be nice, now, wouldn't it?).

Most importantly, live the abundant life our Heavenly Father has promised us. And when His time comes, which could be years, months or days away, He will send you the person He has picked for you who will love every one of your quirks. (Bless the man who will understand my love for Jesus, Chick-fil-A, "Grey's," coffee, early mornings, messy hair, working out, children and just plain ole' me, which is a job in and of itself.)

So for now, be content with being single. You are being molded into who God has created you to be. He is preparing both you and your future spouse for a life-long journey together. I've actually prayed that I would not be in a relationship until I'm content with being single because if I can't be happy with myself, how in the world can I expect someone else to be?

Sincerely,

A Girl In Waiting

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
