To The Friends I Met In College

College is weird, awesome, stressful and the best days of our lives. It's a chance to meet people from all walks of life and enter into relationships with little to no inhibitions. In college, it isn't about cliques or who you've known the longest, but it's about who you enjoy being around. That is how I've made some of my best friends in my last few years of college -- friends who will last a lifetime. Your college friends are truly special and different from any other friends you will have because you shared this incredibly unique experience with them. There are so many things to thank them for, and here are some of them.

1. Understanding the college struggle.

2. Gaining the "freshman 15" with me.

3. Attending the group fitness classes to combat the freshman 15.

4. Pulling all-nighters together during finals week.

5. Ordering food at absurd times.

6. Pointing me toward the Quizlet for my big exam.

7. Sharing my caffeine dependency.

8. Going with me to the meeting for the organization I am thinking about joining.

9. Staying up late talking about our feelings and our dreams.

10. Carrying me home from a night gone awry (and vice-versa).

11. Grabbing an extra for me any time the university is giving out free stuff.

12. Sending the "I miss you" text on every holiday break.

13. Agreeing to partake in even my dumbest ideas.

14. Never expecting my room or car to be clean.

15. Binge watching all of the same shows.

16. Listening to me complain about, well, everything.

17. Doing group Halloween costumes with me.

18. Helping me realize who seems to have good intentions and who really, really doesn't.

19. Understanding the importance of seeing a dog on campus, and always telling me when there is one.

20. Knowing that every grocery shopping trip requires driving through McDonald's or Tim Horton's on the way home.

21. Our symbiotic system for "covering each other" when one of us doesn't have any cash.

22. Going to concerts with me, especially when it's a band from our preteen years.

23. Random dancing!

24. Being as insecure about your future as I am.

25. Loving me, even though I'm 100 percent a mess.

These are our most unpredictable years, our most *tragic* years, and our most adventurous years, and I couldn't get through them without you guys. So, to my college friends, although these years will inevitably come to an end, our friendship never will. Let's face it, someone who has seen as much as you have can never really be a stranger anyways.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
