Middle school was absolutely a low point. When you think of a typical awkward middle schooler, it was me. I had braces and I honestly don't know what was going on with my hair all of the time. I wore skinny jeans that were baggy, and a graphic tee from Hollister that did not match anything. Let's not forget the all blue plaid converse (yes, I actually had those). To give you a frame of reference...
Okay, so we get the point.
A lot of people had a lot of rough middle school years and we can bond about it now. Looking back though, who was around to help to survive grades 6 through 8? My best friend lived down the street from me and as her middle school years were rough she was much more popular than me. Although she was friends with "the popular girls" she still hung out with me at the end of the day. This meant a lot to me because I didn't have a lot of good friends. Especially in middle school it can be brutal. If you even say the wrong thing in class you are teased about it for the rest of the month.
Always having that one friend to go back to and talk about the rest of the world with is such a great person to have. We have been friends ever since she moved down the street from me and we go to school four hours away and are still the best of friends. Good quality friends are hard to come by. A lot of friends are in your life for a couple of years and phase out just because of time and distance and whatever else.
A friend that I can look back think of all the embarrassing things we did together, and continue to do and probably will for the rest of our lives. We made countless "picniks" (if you don't know what that is you are blessed) and posted them all over our Facebook for the whole world to see. We have sung karaoke in front of too many people. Every stupid thing I did in middle school she knew and we can look back and laugh about it now.
I hope everyone has that hometown friend who no matter how long it has been you are still the best of friends. Thanks for sticking by my side when I went through my emo stage and decided to get bangs. Thanks for still staying my friend throughout all of the years and stages of my life. That's my best friend, go my best friend.
