It was the darkest year I had ever encountered. I lost myself and didn't know where to go next. My past was haunting my every move and I was so overwhelmed with all the new experiences going on around me that I couldn't take a minute to breathe. I felt like I was trapped in a box, paused in the moment, while everyone around me was going on with their lives.
Where was I to go when I had no where to go?
I decided to tell you my story. I told you everything and let it all go. Telling you everything was like a breath of fresh air and I could breathe again. You didn't judge my story, you didn't run away, you didn't ignore what I had to say. You listened. You heard every single word I had to say. You were the first person who had no idea of my past when I told you my story and you didn't judge me.
I thought I was crazy because who else had gone through what I went through? Turns out, you did. I had no idea you went through some of the same things I went through. Instantly, we bonded over our pasts that created the golden friendship we have today.
My darkest year began to brighten within a few conversations with you. After continuing to talk to you about my story, you gave me insight and encouragement to move forward. Your wise words helped me heal. You told me more about what had happened to you and you helped me realize that I wasn't alone. You taught me that I'm strong enough to stand up on my own and that I don't need to depend on anyone else.
My open wounds were finally healing and I could finally step out of my box. If I wouldn't have met you, I have honestly no idea where I'd be today.
To you, thank you for understanding me. Thank you for never letting go of me. Thank you for listening to all I have to say. Thank you for never judging my story. Thank you for putting me first. Thank you for your inspiring and heartfelt words that never leave my heart. Thank you for all the late-night conversations, especially when you work early the next morning. Thank you for making me laugh with every conversation we have. Thank you for always making sure I'm alright.
