To The Freshman Who Is Entering College As "Undecided," You Will Figure It All Out

I know how it feels, the anxiety of not knowing what you want to do with your life. Maybe you know what direction you want to go in, maybe you have absolutely no clue what you want to pursue as a career. Both of these paths are okay. It may seem like you have to rush picking out a career choice, but in all honesty, you shouldn't because this is a major part of your future that you have to think about. Right now, you should be proud of yourself for taking the first step of applying and getting accepted into your college!

Picking your major should be a thrilling process because you should focus on what you like to do. Exploring the classes that your university has to offer is such an important part of the process. As an undecided freshman, you should pick classes that sound interesting. Focus on your strengths and what you know you like doing or learning about. If you take a class and you end up hating it, then you know already that you don't want to do anything in that field or subject. If the opposite happens and you end up really enjoying the class, then talk to your advisor and see what other classes are similar.

Talking to people is such a great way to see what fields you're interested in are really like.

Going to listen to guest speakers is important because, although classes are super essential, listening to people who already work in your field is a whole other learning experience. You learn about the tasks you may face in the future. Make connections to these people who have careers that you may want in the future because they will come in handy when you're at a bump in the road and feel lost. These connections can also be your advisors and professors. You never know who or what will help guide or inspire you.

The most important thing to remember throughout the whole process of choosing a major is stay true to yourself.

Make sure you end up learning what you want to learn, not what your parents, friends, or other people want you to learn. Focus on yourself because it is your life. Since you are in college and should be working towards a bright future for yourself, remember to take time to smell the roses and enjoy yourself. Part of figuring out what you want to do is also figuring out who you are.

I'll be frank, this can be a difficult and bumpy process, remember, you will figure it all out.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
