To The Boys In Blue

Not all cops are "bad" cops.

Facebook, like most other social media sites, is the go to place for the daily "rant". It seems every time you log on, you see someone complaining about this or that. Usually I'll skip over it, but recently I came across a topic that seemed a little too ridiculous not to acknowledge.

Someone had shared a video depicting the effects of police brutality on a suspect. The caption this individual added was about how all cops are horrible people and la-de-da-da.

Now this post spiked my interest, not only because it was a generalization of police officers, but this specific person who shared the video was recently arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to sell drugs to minors.

Now, you can't deny the dash cam video of the incident. The police officer's actions were incredibly unprofessional and left the citizen in a coma. However, you can not group all cops together. Cops aren't trained to be inhumane. It's just like assuming you are a racist because you're white, or that you're a criminal because you're black. This officer had his own problems, sure, but you can't tell me that all cops deserve to be treated with disrespect because of what one officer does. They are there to protect and serve, not to be criticized for one man's actions.

I personally know many police officers in different towns and cities. Some of them are kind hearted and some are harder to read. Regardless of their differences, however, I know for a fact that if you break the law you will face the consequences. It is their job to enforce the law, after all. But if you cooperate and don't give them a hard time it's likely to go very smoothly. Heck they might even let you off with a warning. They spend all day worrying about everyone else's problems. They are right there when you get t-boned by a semi. They are there to save you from your abusive relationship. And they are hoping maybe that drug bust will be a wake up call and you will turn your life around.

He or she probably has a family, goes home at the end of day and helps the kids with their homework, cooks some dinner, and goes to sleep at night only to wake up in the morning to do it all over again. If we don't support and have faith in our officers how can we expect them to perform their job justly and with a clear head?

Every day they choose to put on that uniform, hoping today will be a little easier. And I hope it is, because with all of the hate and violence in this world it’s nice to know there is someone in blue watching your back.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
