To the boy who completely stole my heart, who also calls me auntie

To the boy who calls me Auntie,

I know some people would call me crazy when I say my best friend is a three year old boy. I quite frankly don’t care.

I remember vividly the day you were born. Battling tiredness and sleep deprivation, I drove the two hours to the hospital to meet you. You were so small but man were your feet huge. I held you for the first time and I knew then that you and I would always be close.

You and I spend a lot of time together. I watched you grow up. I watched you learn to walk, to learn your letters, and all of your colors. I sat and watched hours of monster truck videos just so you could learn. I could sing those songs in my sleep, but watching you learn made it all worth it.

The days I took you to work with me were some of the best days I can remember. I grew a bond with you that is incredibly strong, and I loved every second of it.

As this week will be your birthday, I wanted to tell you that I love you. You are the kindest little boy that I have ever come to know. I also can’t believe how smart you are. How loving you are. I wish you could stay like that forever.

I know I am not as close as I used to be, but that doesn’t change a thing. You are still my favorite boy. You are still my best friend. No matter how far apart we are, always remember that I love you and that I’m always going to love you, and that I will always be your Auntie.

Happy Birthday big boy. I am so proud of you!

Love Always,

Auntie Kassie

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
